will lecture on Irish affairs In San An-
tonio on tbe 25tb Inst. under the aus-
pices of the local Land League.
—Ed. Van Riper deputy United
States marshal stationed at Eagle Pass
brought in yesterday a prisoner named
Andreas Olivas who is charged with
smuggling and left him in the county
jail.
—Mr. R. M. O’Doud one of Uncle
Sam’s efficient signal officers at the Post
of San Antonio leaves today to take
station at Rio Grande City at the U. S.
Meteorological station there. He will
also resume his law practice.
—An attempt was made last Monday
night to burglarize August Schwartz’s
store. North Flores and Belton streets.
Tbe thieves tried to force an entrance
through one of tbe windows but failed
and left without securing any plunder.
—The Light has received an invita-
tion to attend tbe anniversary ball of
Alamo Council No. 466. of the American
Let-ion of Honor which will be held in
Turner hall next Saturday.
—The Light is getting out a hand-
some circular for tbe Mallory line which
will compare favorably with northern
work. It is a noted fact that its job de-
partment is now turning out the best
work ever seen in this oity.
—Corporal Carnahan has received
his commission as lieutenant and
is transferred to company E 11th
infantry stationed at Fort Niagara
New York.
—Two local building contractors who
have recently dissolved partnership are
having some little trouble over the pos-
seetion of their tools and may go to law
about it.
—Tbe Gas company met last night
and re-elected its old board of directors.
The officers will be elected snortly from
among the directors.
—The San Antonio Gas company are
arranging for the best system of incan-
descent light but it is awaiting tbe re-
sult of investigation before action as it
wants only the best.
—San Antonio Base Ball association
have accepted the grounds tendered
them in the West End addition for a
base ball park.
—A cow was run over yesterday by
an Aransas Pass train in the western
suburbs and while it was not killed was
so mangled that itdied during the night.
It was left in its agony several hours
and no humanitarian came along to put it
out of its misery.
—Hambleton. Hadley & Co. do more
general advertising and reach more peo-
ple than all tbe “boom committees”
combined. This is a live reliable firm
and deserves much success. A half
dozen such land firms in San Antonio
would soon bring about a boom in real
estate.
—Before Justice McAllister yesterday
the suit of Virgil B. Duval vs. Toft was
heard Mr. Duval sought to recover his
fees from money in tbe hands of tbe
court for professional services but as it
was proved that the money belonged to
the firm of From A Toft verdict vat
given for tbe defendant.
