The sum of $250 was appropriated to fur-
nish City Assessor with plats and engineer
■ordered to do the work. Th - other petitions
were referred to the appropriate committees

Gentlemen :—The matter of providing am-
ple facilities for the carrying ot visitors from
the city to the grounds ot the San Antonio
and International Fair association being one
that is at present exciting public interest
the ui derslgned pray that this commuuic -
tion may be received and due conside-ation
given to its contents at this meeting.
It is the purpose of this co - ’ pany and ar-
rangements to that end have been already set
on toot to laj an add tional track on South
Flores street beginning at the intersection o
Nueva street to the S A. Jt A. P. Ry. passen-
gerdepot: also to put in along our line of
street railway between Alamo pi aza and tha
S.A ik A. P. passenger depot at such points
as may be designated by the city engineer

co structiou. will give us facilities for carry-
ing daily between the Alamo plaza and said
d poi.and between Mil.tary plaza and said
depat. b-tween the hours of 9:30 o’clock a. m
and 10:30 o'clock p m. a minimum of thirty
thousand passengers we shall also be pre-
pared in the case of the traffic offering to
handl- forty thousand passengers between the
points and hours above named.
Ourselves being stojwHolders in the Fair as-
sociation. and having its .nteresl much at
heart in ad d ion to the fact that we are op-
erating our lines as a business out ot which
we expect to derive pecuniary advantages
and in every way desiring to provide all the
facilities necessary to accommodate the
travel between the c ty and the San Antonio
and Aransas Pass depot where such ample
faciliti- s tor transporting v.sitors to the fair
grounds already exist will we trust be suf
fleient guarantee on our part that we shall
spare no efforis to carry out the plans above
suggested. Very respectfully.

Alderman Connor seemed unable to dis-
tinguish the communication from a petition
or memorial and moVed its reference to the
committee ou telephones and railways and it
was referred.
The resolutions from the Bth ward protest
meeting v ere prevented and referred to rail-
way committee tor consideration and report.
Mayor Pro Tern Guerguin suggested that
the committee recommend the establishment
ot a street car line via Presa -treet to the fair
grounds leaving the council to adopt or re-
ject the suggestion.
It was suggested that the recommendation
be submit'ed in writing.
The c.ty attorney reported on the city en-
ginter's report giving plat and field not s fix-
ing the lines for tne proposed line or Market
stre. t tor the purpose ot drafting an ordi-
nance designating same as the future true
line on Market street. The city attorney re-
ported that to carry out the line as proposed
it would necessitate the taking ot private
property and this could only be done under
section 201 of the city charter and property
holders could not be forced to respect the new
lines unless an ordinance was passed provid-
ing for the condemnation of such property.
The city attorney recommenced that the piat
and field notes be recorded in the city engi-
neer’s office should the council at any time
desire to widen Market street The report on
motion of Aiderman Lockwood was adopted
The petition of City Collector Riscbe for an
appropriation ot $75 per month for clerk here
Instead or <4O per month was reported favor-
ably. and ai ti-r discussion as to responsibility
of clerk and the opinion of the city attorney
that the bondsmen of the collector were re-
sponsible for the actions of his clerk the in-
crease was granted.
The work on city’ hall came up for consider-
ation upon report of chairman of the improve-
ment committee Guerguin who stated that
City Architect Kramer estimating that there
was work done on the city hall amounting to
$3u00 and that after deducting the 25 i er
c»nt as per rhe contract there was $4500 due
Contracior Braden. According to the time
Mr. Braden had been at work there would bo
$9.00c due him or one-twelfth of the contract
but as tnere w as scarcely anything to show
for it the committee thought of paying him
$1500 or $2000
Considerable discussion ensued as to the
option of the council to pay- less than the
work done as certified by the architect and
the opinion of Kalteyer Bolton and Reimann
was that the council must pay and the bonds-
men must be looked to for relief if the work
was not done in time specified On motion of
Aiderman Lockwood the matter was referred
to the building committer*.
Knights of Pythias and St. Joseph’s Roman
Catholic society wr rc granted cemetery K.fs as
p. r previous petition.
The petition ot F. H. Wulff to change 1 lock
3 n Me quin - and Hackberry streets as favor-
ul'ly reported by engineer was granted.

resolution of Alderman Conner w*»s treated
in he same manner and both reports w< rc
adopted.
The amended petition of the Aransai Pass

Henry Rothe of Hondo City one of
the wealthiest cattlemen in the state

Mr. and Miss Matthews who have

leave for New York this evening.
J. E. Beissner and wife of Galves-
ton are at the Mahncke. Mr. B. is
cashier of one of Galveston’s banks.
