First National Bank of Gentry Ark.
and fled into the hills along the
Arkansas-Oklahoma boundary were
placed in jail here last night by
Sheriff George Maples of this county
leader of the posse which pursued
the alleged bandits for 21 hours.
Another man is said to be under
arrest in Jay Okln. in connection
with the robbery while the fourth
alleged member of the band is still
at large in the bills.
U Two women were arrested in a log
cabin near the place where the posse
arrested Keyes and Pitts; They gave
their names as Clifford. One is said
to be the wife and the other the
sister of the man who is still sought
by the posse. Sheriff Maples declared
that ammunition was found in the
cabin and that there was evidence
that the place had been occupied for
about four days.
Bandits entering the Gentry bank
at noon Saturday forced six persons
into the vault and escaped with ap-
proximately sl4l*o in currency and
lt is not believed that any
of the money has been recovered.

unmasted men. armed with revolvers
nnd shotguns believed by the jmlice
to be members of the “Egan's Rats”
a St Louis gnng early this morning
attteked the Chicago & Alton baggage
room here nnd escaped with four hags
of mail. After firing almost 50 shots
at police baggagemen and special
L agents of the railroad five Of the
robbers threw the mails in an auto-
mobile and escaped.
One of the men. who. police state
is Bryan J. Shelton known as “Pe-
wee” Shelton of St. Louis was ar-
rested before he could get nway nnd
is held in the local jail. His finger
prints correspond with those of “Pc-
wee- ’ Shelton. St. Louis police ad-
vised the Stringfield authorities.
Truck Driver Felled.
James Harney postal truck driver
was felled by the butt end of a gun
while loading mail sacks nn a truck
standing near the door of the bag-
gage room. Before he could get to
his feet he and Harry Perkins a bag-
gage employe were covered with guns
by two of the robbers. They were
marched into the baecaee room where
the robbers discovered John Kirk an-

Notwithstanding the indisputable proofs of the falsity of the charge that
Fourth Degree members of the Knights of Columbus take or subscribe to the bogus
alleged "oath" published in certain sections of Texas in recent months certain
newspapers organizations and individuals continue to publish and circulate the
same and to represent it as genuine.
The undersigned have this day deposited Five Thousand Dollars ($5-
000.00) with the Commercial National Bank of San Antonio Texas which
sum will bq paid to any person or persons furnishing proof:
1. That the said alleged "oath" is taken or subscribed to or ever was taken
hr subscribed to by the Knights of Columbus or
2. That Protestants or Masons are or ever were referred to directly or indi-
rectly in the Ceremonials of the Knights of Columbus or
3. That the following is not the true obligation taken by Fourth Degree
members of the Knights of Columbus:
'*l swear to support the Constitution of the United States. 1 pledge myself
aa a Catholic citizen and a Knight of Columbus to fully enlighten myself upon my
duties as a citizen and to conscientiously perform them entirely in the interest of
my country regardless of all personal consequences. 1 pledge myself to do all in
my power to preserve the integrity and purity of the ballot and to promote respect
for law and order. I promise to practice my religion consistently and faithfully
and to so conduct myself in public affairs and the exercise of public virtue as to
reflect nothing but credit upon our Holy Church to the end that she may flourish
and our country prosper to the greater honor and glory of God.

ing ’em up” the bandits fired sev-
eral shots into the wall near him.
A. W. Tyler special agent for the
Chicago & Alton attracted by the
shots rushed into the baggage room.
He was greeted by n volley of shots
and made hasty retreat.
Empty Mail Sacks Found.
The robbers fired a fusillade in the
taxicab office across the street from
the station when a taxi driver yelled
at them nnd then poured several vol-
levs into the windows of the Spring-
field Transfer Company nearby.
Police arrived in time to interfere
with the escape ns one robber was
unable to join his fellows before their
automobile sped away. This man.
believed by police to be Shelton was
captured as he fled down the Chicago
& Alton tracks.
The four empty mail sacks were
found by police in the east end of
the city and an automobile believed to
be the one used by the robbers was
recovered north of the city. It was
found to have been stolen in St.
Louis recently.
BANDIT IS WOUNDED.
Possemcn Surround Robber Gang In
Abandoned House.
Muskogee Okla.. April 2.—One of
the bandits who robbed the Bnnk of
Gentry at Gentry Ark.. Saturday
was wounded bv n sheriffs posse near
Rowe. Okln.. Sunday when posse-
men surrounded the men in an
abandoned house according to word
teaching here. The bandits carry-
ing their wounded comrade with them
fought their way out and escaped.
Deputy Sheriff Ben Smith a
veteran peace officer declared he was
positive a man who fired nt him was
Al Spencer the notorious bandit.
Just before dawn the posse led
by Deputy Sheriff Smith approached
the house in which the bandits had
taken refuge. As the possemen
closed in a man calmly stepped
through the door nnd fired point blank
at the deputy. He stumbled nnd fell
upon some jagged rocks and blood
gushing from his forehead ns he lay
stunned caused the report to be sent
back thnt ho had been killed.
Instantly a volley blazed from the
windows of the house. As the posse-
men returned the fire four men dash-
ed through the rear door. One of
them stumbled and fell nnd his
companions seizing him. dragged him
with them.
DOCTOR GETS LIFE
Convicted of Causing Woman's Death
Through Illegal Operation.
Oklahoma City Okla. April 2.—
Dr. A. B. C. Davis physician wsa
found guilty of murder and sentenc«l
to life imprisonment by a jury in
county court which reported Sunday
morning after his trial on a charge
of having caused the death of Mrs.
Mary Sudik by an illegal operation
Davis is 50 years old and has four
grown children. The trial had many
sensational features as the doctor had
a wide practice.

the Project.
Santiago. Chile April Z.—When the
juridical committee of the Pan-Ameri-
can conference resume.- its sessions
this week it will have before it the
project providing for the establishment
of a code of international law for the
American continent incorporating
and amplifying the principles of the
Monroe doctrine.
The project is contained in a report
made to the conference by Alejandro
Alvares a Chilean jurist and member
of one of the committees appointed
by the commission of jurists which
met in Rio Janeiro in 1912 to study
the subject of codification of American
international law.
The project contains fifteen articles
the first two of which affirm the right
Of the states of the new world to es-
tablish the fundamental basis on which
“international American society”
ought to rest nnj also the principles
on which questions especially of
American character ought to be
solved.
The third fourth fifth and sixth
articles are described by Senor Al-
varez as containing the thre. original
principles of the Monroe doctrim and
two amplifications. They establish
that American states each equni be-
fore the law have acquired rights of
complete i. dependence liberty and sov-
ereignty. which cannot be limited for
nn outside continent even' with the
consent of an American state.
No extra continct/nl states may oc-
cupy even temporarily any portion
of the territory cf nn American stnte
in order to exercise sovereignty even
with the consent of thnt stnte. No state
may intervene in the interior or exter-
ior affairs of an American state
against its will.

conciliatory character. All states would
bo unanimous in the defet.se and
1 maintenance of the rights proclaimed
in. the foregoing articles.
'The other article* establish the
rights of individuals in American
countries. They adopt for all •untries
the doctrine by which persons born in
an American state are nationals of the
stnte. regardless of the nationality
of their parents. They also double the
three-mile territorial limit.
The last article invites the world
especially Europe to .-.dhere to the
principles of he code so that it may
