BANDITS
Information From Victoria
Sheriff May Lead to
Capture.
Information from the' sheriff of
Victoria is now in the possession of
Chicf of Detectives Sam Street which
may lead to the capture of the two
nrmed bandits who Tuesday night
narrowly evaded capture after holding
up Sam Johnson. 417 East Dewey
place and Ollie Thomas 811 Nevada
street both negroes.
The holdups staged separately oc-
curred within an hour of each other
Thomas picked up by a friend irnme-
dintcly after being robbed pursued the
pair who fled in an automobile. When
the chase grew hot the bandits de-
serted their car at West French place
and Martinez creek.
A headlight test receipt isaned in
Victoria wns found in the automobile
and was the first clue which armed
th p officers in their search for the

beries here. He also revealed the sup-

TAKEN BY DEATH
Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie E.
Pryor 77. who died Wednesday at
her home. 308 Augusta street will be
held Friday morning. Dr. P. B. Hill
pastor nf the First Presbyterian
church officiating. Pallbearers will

tindale and Jack Allensworth. A na-
tive of Tennessee. Mrs. Pryor had
lived here nearly 50 years. She is sur-
vived by two daughter and a son.

AS ORD POST HEAD
A. W. Robbins was installed as
post commander of the E. O. C. Ord
Post. G. A. R. at the monthly meet-
ing of the organization in the K. P.
Hall Monday afternoon.
A patriotic address was delivered
by Rev. Sylvester Robertson assistant
rector of .St. Mark's Episcopal church
C. 8. Broadbent past national
commander of the G. A. R. officiated
as installing officer.

celebration of the sixth anniversary of
the eighteenth amendment at the Mon-
ger hotel Thursday.
Dr. Asher Harlan Brand minister
of the Madison Square Presbyterian
church and others spoke.
RABBI BENGIS TO SPEAK.
“Light Out of Darkness” will be
the subject of a sermon by Rabbi Bcn-
gis at the Main Avenue Synagogue
Friday night. He will discuss the
Egyptian plague of darkness its mod-
ern aspects and the place of the Jew
in the world's civilization.
