THOUSANDS OF BIROS
DIE DUE TO OIL FIRE
SANTA BARBARA. Cal.. April
Hi. —C4 5 ) —Thousands of sea birds are
being killed and extinction threatens
the famous Pismo clam as a result
of the $10000000 oil fire at San Luis
(Ibispo.
Captain Robert On I. arriving from '
Avila yesterday declared that in the
effort to control the fire oil reached
the ocean and has spread out for 4
distance of fourteen miles down the
coast. The sea birds he said settling I
into the sea. would alight in the oil j
and become covered with the black ’
fluid become helpless and reach the
beach only to die. The oil has found |
its way into all the bays for fourteen
miles down the coast saturating the
beach sands and at low tide covering
the clam beds with n black scum.
