Thomas Edmund O’Brien,
80, Rt. 1, San Antonio, passed
away Sunday, July 10, in Me-
dina county Memorial Hospit-
al, Hondo.
Rev. L. S. Dubberly of New
Fountain Methodist Church
conducted the funeral services
July 12 from Hurley Chapel,
Hondo. Masonic graveside ser-
vices were held in Oakwood
Cemetery. Pallbearers were
Dr. O. B. Taylor, Edgar Nur*
en berg er, A. W. Gray, A.C.
Hagen,Jack Gibley,and A. D. 4

O'Brien was a native of
Rusk, where he was born in ,
1886. HO spent the last 65
years of his life in the-La-
Coste-Lytle area, where he-
was a member of the Lytle
Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his sis- ‘
ter,Mrs.F. V. Ford of the
LaCoste-Lytle area; nieces, je.,
Mrs. Preston Gaines of Hon;
do and Mrs. Emma Ackeroyd.,
of San Antonio; and a nephe w, <
Herndon L. O^Brien of Dallas.

Castroville Public Library
Board of Trustees had its reg-
ular meeting Monday. July 11,
at 9:30 a.m., in the library
with 6 members present.
The resignation of Board
Member Fred Mershon, ‘who is
moving to San Antonio, wes
accepted with regret. Mershon
had been an active member of
the board. He donated 2 paint-
ings to the library; one is in
the library, the other was the
prize in the drive for funds 2 7
years ago. , 2
The treasurer, Mrs. Justin
Jungman, reported a balance
of $248.25 in the checking ac*
count at Castroville State
Bank. After hearing this re-
port, the" members voted to
conduct another drive for
funds, and will ask permis-
sion of the City Council to
insert an.appeal in the Aug-
ust utility bills. Mrs. Guy
Allen Holzhaus offered to go
through the library cards and
mail appeals to those who are
outside the city limits, but
make use of the library. .
Mrs. Helen Murrell, librar-
ian. reported the increase of
Circulation of books, especial-

The hour began with,
"Let’s get acquainted."
Each child gave his name and
received a card stamped Cas-
troville Public Library which
was punched by DickSchnei-
der so that.an accurate count
can be kept of the attendance.
The 1st story, "The Pedd-
ler and his Hat," was famil-
iar to many of the children
and they Joined with the story-
teller at intervals in making
sounds like the monkeys and
naming the colors of the caps.
The 2nd story was from Af-
rica,. "The Bojabi Tree.”
This time the children were
asked to guess what the moth-
