“The sorrow is lonely, but
you are not alone,”
President George W. Bush
said at the Columbia
Memorial service at
Johnson Space Center
Tuesday. NASA and
America remembered Col.
Ilan Ramon, Laurel Clark,
Col. Rick Husband,
William McCool, Michael
Anderson, Kaplana Chawla
and David Brown during
the service.
How heart-wrenching
the entire ordeal is. Hasn’t
our nation been through
enough pain and suffering?
Why did something that
should’ve been so wonder-
ful, go so wrong?
When I turned on the
television Saturday morn-
ing and watched the events
unfold before my eyes, like
many Americans did. all I
could think was, “Why?”
The seven astronauts were
only 16 minutes away from
their landing strip in
Florida, where friends and

arrival.
Despite all the sadness
and sorrow, with our
President standing in the
same place former
President Ronald Reagan
stood 17 years ago after
the tragic explosion of the
space shuttle Challenger,
pride became the overrid-
ing emotion in my heart.
As I drove through Sealy
and Austin County and
sawfall the American flags
at half-mast, I thought
how great that our com-
munity shows so much
support and American
pride,
When President Bush
said America’s space pro-

Dear Editor:
Can someone explain to
me why our community
leaders keep wasting their
time and ours on an anti-
quated technology?
A Land line DSL system
has so many limitations
that by its own nature will
barely fulfill the needs of
one third of the citizens of
our community, and less
than half of the business.
