HIGH ELEVEN READY
Lightning-f as t Game Ex-
pected Between Players of
Rival School Teams.
Football today.
At I:4k thia afternoon the High
school eleven takes the field at Elec-
tric park against the Coronal Insti-
tute team for the deciding contest
of the Inter-city championship of the
San Marcos-Sen Antonio scholastic
gridiron season of 1912. the winner
to he recorded In school footbal his-
tory as the best team of the year In
thia section of the state.
The game Is certain to be the
hardest fought of the year in San
Antonio. Coronal having held the
fast High squad to a disputed tie at
Sag Marcos early In the season and
having defeated the best of the San
Marcos school teams decisively
during the season. Both team* have
been working hard to get Into
championship form for the contest
and the result probably will not be
determined until the last trick In
each squad's budget of plays baa
been exhausted.
High Ha* Advantage.
On form High has the advantage
having the edge on weight speed
variety of attack and fighting spirit.
If past records are to be depended
upon while the Coronal squad will
be landing In front only through a
reversal of form on the part of the
High team or a surprising addition
to their own ability along the same
line*.
Perhaps the best of the game will
be seen from the sidelines as either
team has shown a marked predelic-
tion to the use of the open style of
play of the 1912 rules which gives
to the spectators a full Insight Into
the progress of nearly every play.
Forward passes double and even
/triple passes nre frequent In the
1912 -ame and wtth the formations
requiring the runner with the ball
to be unsupported by his comrades
ln*hitting the line either by push-
ing or pulling. It Is hardly proba-
ble there will be any frequency of
mass plays.
Corona! Team Arrive*.
The Coronal team arrived this
morning at 9:35 over the Interna-
tional & Great Northern accompa-

THE SAN ANTONIO LIGHT
Above the Coronal Institute football squad of 1912: below the San Antonio High sch<x»l champions.
Coronal's rt'cord for 1912 includes seven games four of which were vletorica one a tie one a defeat
and one with their opponents today a dlnputed score. Coronal defeated Lockhart High 13 to 0: San Marcos
High 24 to 0; West Texas 19 to 0; and Southwest Texas Normal 13 to 0. The institute team was held to a
tie by the Southwestern University scrubs and defeated by Marshall Training school 13 to 0.
The San Antonio High school has played ten games winning eight losing one and ending with a dis-
?uted score at San Marcos in the other contest. High defeated Marshall Training school a week before the
larshall team trimmed Coronal and in the Thanksgiving day game against West Texas scored 34 points as
compared with Coronal's score of but 19 against the same team earlier in the season.
“but it strikes me differently now.
I’ll be out for the team again next
fall and if I don’t make it It will
be no tault of my own. I’m willing
to abide by the mandates of fate but
I will be surprised If I am oenn in
the backfield again. If 1 have my
way I’ll play in the line. An end
position would suit me to a “T.”
In the opinion of most football
sharps Flynn should never have
been played In the backfield. His
speed strength and endurance qual-
ity him for an end position. Tom
i Shevlin thought so too. The mo-
I ment this advisory coach reached
New Haven this fall he advised the
shift. But under the prevailing
‘coacning system the advice was
scorned. Perhaps It was just as well.
Yale seemed doomed anyhow at that
late stage. If the horrible showing
of the blue againts the crimson re-
sults In proper coaching reform
“Lefty” Flynn may be regarded as a
gridiron martyr.

FOOTBALL SQUADS IN TITLE MATCH HERE TODAY
PLAY 19 HOLES TO
DECIDE CUP TOURNEY
W. J. Lyons Champion at laurel
Heights Course in Class
A Match.
With the conclusion yesterday of
the Laurel Heights golf cup tourney
contest in Class A by the victory of
W. J. Lyons over J. L. Mcllhenny
1 up after 19 holes of play the
Laurel Heights golfers will this week
enter upon the concluding rounds in
Class C and D four matches remain-
ing to be played in each class.
In Class C J. D. Hartman will play
Ned Mcllhenny; Ray Hare will play
W. P. Colvert; T. E. Lyons will play
B. F. Nicholson and L. DeNette will
play E. A. Barris. In Class D J. M.
Eskridge will play G. A. Schreiner;
Dr. Rice will play Dr. B. E. Witte.
Dr. Beck will play D. E. Potter and
P. S. Robertson will play K. Wimer.
The defeat of J. L. Mcllhenny in
the finals for the cup in Class A yes-
terday was one of the most evenly
contested matches of the tourney so
far the eighteen holes being finish-
ed even up necessitating the playing
of an additional hole which Lyons
won. giving him the cup. A. H. Dan-
forth. winner of the cup in (Hass B
has challenged the Class A champion
for match play during the week and
In turn has been challenged by R.
Richardson.
With the system of challenges thus
permitted the winners to take the
place of the defeated opponents
many changes are anticipated in the
various classes outlined at the be-
ginning of the tourney play with the
ending of the challenges finding the
best of the Laurel Heights golfers
ranged in the Claa A team.
Manager Symons says the tourney
has been the making of a number of
the Indifferent players in the club
and that the continued contests are
certain to bring out all the available
talent in the membership. Today he
stated that the course had been
benefited greatly by the rains and
that with a few days of fine weather
would compare favorably with some
of the best links in the country.
