Veterans Day program held here
; Veterans of the United States Armed forces were recognized and honored in a special
Veterans Day Ceremony on the Mills County Courthouse Plaza last Tuesday, November 11. In
the top photo, Lt. Col. M. A. Campbell, USAF Ret., of Goldthwaite, presented an address to the
over250 people who assembled for the program. Georgie Bridges handled the welcome, Judge
Randy Wright introduced Campbell, and Superintendent Jim Bowie gave the history of
“Taps.” The haunting melody was played on the trumpet by Anna Gene Moreland. The GHS
band played the National Anthem. Some 91 veterans were recognized at the event. A similar
program is planned for 1998. In the lower photo, flags were flying all over the downtown area,
as a result of a new Lions Club flag promotion. The club erected 75 flags for Veterans Day.
