to overcome the pain of your loss. Be patient for a
while longer. And try not to discourage each other
from talking things out. Then, when you sense the
time is ripe, take your husband with you to your
family minister, or doctor. The help of one or both
should prove very comforting at this time. God be

me she's lazy and sleepy in class and that she’s even
fallen asleep several times during the day. I know
her grades are down, too.
My husband says it’s just a phase but I think
something may really be wrong. Joanne won’t say
anything, though. Val, what should I do? — Con-
cerned.
Dear Concerned: Start by taking Joanne for a
complete medical check. If nothing physically
wrong turns up, it's time for a psychologist. The
trouble lies on one area or the other.

Dear Val. This is very painful for me. Three
years after my husband, Bill, and I were married,
we had a baby boy Kurt. A month ago, at age 2, Kurt
died of leukemia. Bill went to pieces. We haven’t
much talked or kissed each other, let alone slept in
the same bed since. Now Bill is ranting and raving
about how he wants to have himself fixed so he can
never have kids again.
Val, my grief over my son’s death is enough.
Please tell me how I can best help Bill to see that
what he’s doing is very wrong, so we can work
through this thing together. — Grieved Wife &

Health officials fear measles epidem
By RAYMOND T MOORE, M.D.
Commissioner, Texas Department of Health
Evidence that a measles epidemic may have
begun in Texas has, prompted Texas health
department officials to recommend stringent im-
munization measures, especially for school-age
children.
"We know of measles epidemics occuring in eight
other states, as well as those measles cases oc-
curring in our school children - especially in junior
high school and high school students in East
Texas,” said Dr. Jerome H. Greenberg, deputy
commissioner for preventable diseases with the
Texas Department of Health.
Dr. Greenberg urged all school systems to review
immunization records for elementary, junior high
school and particularly high school students.
The following should be pinpointed:

Dear Val: Why are mothers so unreasonable? My
Father died nine months ago. My husband and I
took care of the funeral arrangements for Mom.
Then we put her house up for sale, as she wanted.
We wanted her to stay with us. We have an extra
room. But she insisted on getting a small apartment
.sin theity, which she and Dad had planned to do.
Why would she want to live alone, 25 miles away
from us?
I’m frustrated. I’m worried about her being alone
all by herself. What can I do to make her change her
mind? — Daughter.
Dear Daughter: .Who’s being unreasonable — and
acting like an overprotective mother? You don’t say
that your mother’s ill or unable to get around on her
own. So let her enjoy her independence!
She obviously doesn't want to be a burden on
anyone. Just let her know she’s welcome whenever
she wants to visit.
