Umlangs Have
Annual Reunion
The 10th annual Umlang re-
union was held L.on Saturday
evening, Aug. 4 with 115 re-
latives and friends attending.
Host and hostess were Mr. and
Mrs. Alvin Foerster.
A delicious barbecue supper
and all the trimmings was
served at the Lincoln Commu-
nity Hall.
An interesting program was
conducted by Pastor Alton
Kieschnick who served as mas-
ter of ceremonies for the even-
ing.
; you, Mr. Businessman.

Daca S —rignd ~rch• your mind and use new busi-
ness techniques as they pre-
able to answer him. Let him
know he is in Giddings, let
him know we are a happy
commmunity of about 2800
people.
Our 1950 census was 2532
but we have grown a little
since then. Make it your obli-
gation to your town to be
proud of it and let other people
is contageous; let’s see if we
can’t have an epidemic.
I was going to one particu-
lar place to trade for a certain
product because it was handy.
That is something we all do.
But, I happen to be on the
other side of town and bought
the same product for the same
price and have been going back
ever since. The reason for
driving that extra distance, a
little courtesy. I was treated mh
a friendly, happy manner ra-
ther than being made to feel
that they were doing me a favor
to wait on me.
Remember, when a stranger
comes into your town to buy
something, you might not know
who he is and you may feel
that it is nob too important to
go out of your way to be nice.
You might feel that you will
never see them again. This may
be true, but what if that per-
son happened to be an indus-
trial scout. They don’t wear
signs to let you know and they
won't tell you if you ask. They
want to know the true side of
a community, not the side you
want them to see.
Courtesy and friendship is
one of the biggest assets a
small town can have. Let peo-
ple know we have them both.
Take pride in your city.
What do you think when you
drive through a town and see
all the fronts dirty, the streets
littered and the town looking
like it needs a good cleaning.
You probably feel the same way
I and most other people do in
that you drive right on through
to the next town that looks
clean and happy. This, you
might say, is a rule for travel-
ing people.
This is what we do not want
to happen to Giddings. The
next time you drive down the
main streets of town, look
and the little other things
needed would be rather small.
Stop and think, don’t you like
to trade in a nice clean place.
A new’ paint job certainly mak-
es a place look neat and clean.
Also, you might enjoy trad-
ing there the way a person
feels while he is purchasing
something sometimes deter-
mines how much he will spend.
' What am I trying to say?
Just this: We are a small group
of people that would like to be
thought of as being progressive
and yet sometimes due to lack
of get up and go we let some
grass grow under our feet and
, pretty soon we find ourselves
। trapped in a rut and can't
move. Don’t let this happen to
