The bands of Giddings Indepen-
dent School District will present
their annual spring concert on
Thursday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the
Giddings High School Gym.
This year's program will be an all
pops concert. The concert will start
with the Sixth Grade Band playing

A total of 293 citizens turned out to
vote in Saturday’s Giddings City
Election
Mayor Lavonne Droemer -
Morrow, who was running unop-
posed for re-election, received 219
votes.
Former city secretary Lucille
Walther received the highest
number of votes in the city council
race, with 232 votes And incumbent
councilman Marion M. Muras was
re-elected with 170 votes, while
contender Everard Droemer re-
ceived 133 votes.

Dr. Nolan is planning to build a
3,400 square foot clinic with expected
costs ranging from 3170,000 to
3190,000.
He hopes that the new clinic will
bring in additional doctors and 6 to 9
employees for the clinic Mr. Nolan
said his son hopes to see Giddings
turn into a medical center.
The city council voted unanimous-
ly to loan the funds, if given

late last year, Union Pacific has
been actively drilling horizontal
wells in neighboring Burleson
County and a portion of northeastern
Lee County since the fourth quarter
of 1989, with excellent results on its
Mrt wells
Union Pacific has also been
actively leasing land for drilling in
the Lee and Fayette County areas in
recent months, as reported in the
Times & News early this year,
indicating the company is planning
to expand its drilling program into
this area in the not too distant future.
Clerks at the courthouse in
LaGrange report a lot of lease-
hounds looking over records and
filing leases during the past six
weeks.

Dr. Paul Nolan, who recently
announced plans to move his
medical practice to Giddings, is
seeking to borrow some of the funds
from the city's economic develop-
ment revolving loan fund for the
construction of a medical clinic in
Giddings.
Dr. Nolan is scheduled to begin his
practice as early as July 15 and
hopes to begin building a medical
clinic in the near future
will remain the same and the same
people will be employed as in the
past.
Councilman Marion Muras asked
if the new company plans to branch
out and take in rural areas around
Giddings. Mr. Jim Collin of the
company said if it is worthwhile they
will. However, they indicated that it
takes between 30 and 40 homes per
mile to make it worthwhile
Local residents in Giddings will
have a local telephone number to
call for service beginning this week
Councilman Alton Weiser asked
the new company to consider
Giddings as a place to open an office
rather than LaGrange
The Giddings City Councl gave
their approval Monday night for the
transfer of the television cable
franchise in Giddings to a new
owner.
Insight Cablevision has sold the
cable company in Giddings and ail of
their others companies in Texas to
Cencom Partners
Local manager Sal Grenillo said
that he hopes to stay with the
company as their manager in Texas.
Mr. Grenillo said that the new
company’s main objective during
the takeover is to make it as
transparent as possible. He said the
major change will be the change of
the decals on the sides of the trucks.
He noted that all other activities

Giddings Tuesday morning.

Mr. Spitzenberger saw the little
green balloon floating down from the
sky above the trees at his farm north
of Old Dime Box about 2 p.m. last
Thursday and it just came down and
caught in a barbed wire fence like it
was waiting for him to retrieve it.
Attached to the balloon was a
written note saying, "Make Your
Dreams Come True.” It was sent by
an elementary student in San
Antonio, and it was dated Thursday,
April 26

An Elgin resident was arrested in
Giddings Saturday afternoon about
7:30 p.m. on charges of fleeing from
a police officer and leaving the scene
of a traffic accident.
Police arrested Maurillo Navarro
Wences, 29, of Elgin on the charges
after they reported he allegedly left
the scene of an accident in the 3600
block of East Austin.
Police reported Wences was
driving a 1982 Ford pickup west on
U.S. 290 in the inside lane of traffic.
Another vehicle, a 1989 Ford driven
by Donna Delgado of Giddings, was
westbound on U.S. 290 in the outside
lane.

Union Pacific has become a leader
in the new technology of horizontal
drilling in the Giddings Field and
has just reported 1989 and
first-quarter 1990 results of its
horizontal drilling

write-in votes out of over 1,600 votes
cast in his bid to become a director
representing Bastrop County.
Incumbent director J. W. Munson
of Elgin received 1,425 votes and
retained his position as a director for
Bastrop County. He has served on
the board since 1978 and has been
president of four banks and also
worked in real estate and
construction
Mr Wulff, who was originally
from Oregon but has lived in Texas
since 1970 and in Bastrop County for
the past five years, represented a

Jacob Ray to compete
at state track meet
Jacob Ray will be competing in the
state high school track meet this
weekend at Memorial Stadium in
Austin.
Jacob, a Lexington High School
senior, will be competing in the pole
vault competition in level AA.
Jacob qualified for the state
competition with a 13-foot jump at
the regional meet in Victoria He
placed second in the regional
competition. He is coached by
Richard Johnston.
Loebau Picnic
on Mother's Day
Christ Lutheran Church of Loebau
will hold their annual Mother's Day
Picnic Sunday, May 13.
Beef, pork, mutton and beans will
ho on sale at 8 a.m.
Profits from the barbecue and
beer sales will go toward the Parish
Hall Building Fund
Sunday School will be at the
church at 10:15 a m., with the church
service on the picnic grounds at 11
a.m.
The Ladies Aid will serve potato
salad, baked goods and will have a
country store. Hamburgers will be
sold from noon until 8 p m.
There will be games and contests
for young and old.

In the city council race, four
candidates were vying for three
positions. Elected were incumbents
Ronny Bradshaw with 135 votes and
Ernest Cherico with 115 votes, and
Ernest A. Biehle with 119 votes. The
fourth candidate, Craig Biehle,
received 67 votes.
Lexington ISD School Board non-
contested election Saturday.
Mary Sue Knipstein was re-
elected with 125 votes. Also elected
were David Brown with 124 votes
and Joe Mingus with 118 votes
All three will serve three-year
terms.

Damon Nolan, father of the new
