the traditional breakfast ideal.
Stuff suggests the following
alternatives:
-Peanut butter and jelly sand-
wich.
-Yogurt and toast with jelly.
-Fresh fruit and cottage cheese.
-Cheese and crackers.
-Soup.
-Popcorn.
-Breakfast taco.
-Leftovers.
Before parents rush to the store
and overstock the pantry with
breakfast "goodies," Stuff encour-
ages them to read labels.
“Parents may discover they are
giving their child a product that lists
sugar, sodium or fat as a main
ingredient,” she said.
Sugar-coated cereals are an
example. Stuff recommends that
children be introduced to a variety of
natural wholegrains.
Discretion is urged when selecting
breakfast meats as well. “A number
of breakfast meats are marked lean
or lite. They may have fewer
calories, but 70 percent of those
calories may come from fat,” Stuff
said.
To add protein to the morning
meal, she recommends either
Canadian bacon or ham that has
been prepared in a non-stick skillet
or microwave oven. Only 45 percent
of the calories in Canadian bacon or
ham come from fat.
Despite good intentions, parents
may undermine efforts to start their
child’s day on a healthy note.
According to Stuff, children's food
choices and eating habits are
influenced by the preferences of
their parents.
“Parents must set a good
example, and Mom is an especially
important role model. If she sips
coffee and munches on a doughnut,
what kind of message is she sending
her child?"
When possible, parents should also
include the child in menu planning,
shopping and meal preparation. The
entire family should practice the
ABCs of good nutrition.

Everyone has things that worry
them at one time or another. Call
them problems, frustrations or just
things out of their control.
It’s fine to be concerned about
problems that develop. But it’s
another thing to let your lives
become consumed with worries.
Many mental problems begin in
small ways. Maybe you become
concerned that you might lose your
job or your business might have to
close down because the economy
slows up.
Or you could get concerned about
how safe your money is invested -
whether your bank might fail or the
value of a piece of property you own
might suddenly drop in price.
If you have children or a husband
qr wife, you might start worrying
about their safety while they are
traveling, or at school or while at
work.
It’s easy to let worries overwhelm
us if we don’t watch out. And when it
happens we can soon get to the point
where the quality of our lives suffers
considerably.
Who can be truly happy and
tranquil when their mind is filled
with all kinds of worries and
concerns?
This is why God’s Word tells
believers that they shouldn’t be
worried about anything.
In Phillippians 4:6 we read, “Do
not worry about anything, but in
every concern thankfully make
known your requests to God in
prayer.”
In this inspired passage of
scripture, believers are told to quit
worrying about things But it doesn't
stop there.
This scripture says that instead of
worrying, we should make our
concerns known to God through
prayer -- requesting that He take
care of these problems.
That’s why the very next passage
of scripture in verse 7 shows what
happens when we do this: “Then the
p ace of God which is beyond all
understanding will guard your

School is just around the corner,
and parents are beginning to shop
for supplies. But a nutritionist at the
Children’s Nutrition Research Cen-
ter in Houston says one obvious
entry on the annual checklist is often
overlooked - breakfast.
“It is the most important meal of
the day, especially for children,”
said Janice Stuff, a research
instructor at Baylor College of
Medicine in Houston. “Breakfast
supplies %4 to % of the recom-
mended daily allowance of vitamins
and minerals. If you skip breakfast,
it is hard to catch up during the
day.”
Mastering the three Rs requires a
lot of energy. Without breakfast,
children are usually hungry by
midmorning. A hungry child is too
cranky and too tired to concentrate
on schoolwork, Stuff said.
"Breakfast gives a child an energy
boost improving his or her behavior,
attitude and physical and mental
performance.”
Healthy breakfasts draw on
several of the basic food groups
Parents can fortify their mini-

hearts and minds in Christ Jesus ”
Yes, this peace of God will actual-
ly surround and encompass our
hearts and minds in such a way that
it guards them against worries.
There are few things more
comforting than knowing that we
can turn our worries and problems
over to God. And then have them
replaced by the peace of God which
passes all understanding.
The Bible is filled with assurances
that everything we need will be
provided. So why worry?
If things seem to be going wrong,
all we need to do is to pray that God
will take care of it - and He
promises that He will.
But He also promises that He will
give us a kind of peace that will
make us feel safe and secure even
when storm clouds are all around us.
This peace comes through Christ
Jesus.
The next time that we begin to
worry, we need to stop right then and
there - and make our request known
to God through prayer.
Not only will this give us a break
from our worries, but it will also be
turning it over to God who will take
care of everything.
The next time a worry pops into
your mind, ask yourself, “Am I
worrying when I should be trusting
God?”
