This kind of prayer can be prayed
continually and while we are doing
other things it doesn't require a lot
of concentration But by praying it
steadily and throughout the day it
becomes the prayer of the heart and
spirit
Instead of just praying with the
mind, it then involves our hearts and
our spirits where it does the most
good
It is a part of our innermost being
that only the Spirit of Jesus has
access to. And we reach that depth
when we surrender our entire selves
to Jesus and His will
Through this kind of prayer, we
are giving permission for Jesus our
Saviour to make our lives into an
ever-flowing fountain of continual
prayer
And that's when we will have
discovered the secret of the prayer

Brunkenhoefer, left, is presented the Rhea Sheffield.
Most of us pray at certain times,
such as at mealtime or when we go
to bed And other prayers may be
offered in times of sickness or when
we have special needs
Most people also think of prayer as
something they must repeat out loud
or reserve for times when they can
cease all other activities
But there is an inward kind of
prayer which doesn't produce any
outward, visible indications that it’s
taking place It is a continual prayer
of the heart and mind that doesn't
interrupt our daily routine
God's Word instructs us to "Pray
without ceasing" in I Thess. 5:17
The Revised Standard Version
reads. "Pray constantly."
This is the kind of prayerfulness
that can so envelop our entire being
that our lives are saturated with
prayer.
It is this way of praying that forces
us to reach down much deeper into
our heart and soul. requiring more of
us than most of our other prayers,
such as at the dinner table or at
other specific times
This is the prayer of the innermost
self - when we turn prayers into a
continuous thing that is part of our
every waking moment.
When we pray only at specific
times, our mind sometimes cooper-
ates with the spirit of prayer But at
other times our conscious mind can
drift to other activities or responsi-
bilities
However, the prayer from the
heart bypasses our conscious effort
and doesn't require so much
strength of will It becomes an
outpouring of spiritual energy from
deep inside the soul
It can be something with only a
very few words such as "Lord Jesus
Christ. Son of God, have mercy upon
me, a sinner " Or it might be
something as simple at Jesus, Jesus,
Jesus." or. "Jesus, my Helper in
timeofneed "
Some people call it the Jesus
Prayer It is a prayer directed to
Jesus in order to draw from His
spiritual strength and holiness, since
He was once a human being just like
all of us
