Memorial services for Rita K.
Pruitt, 42, of Rockdale and for-
merly of Lexington were held at
11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8,1993 in the
Phillips & Luckey Chapel in
Rockdale with Rev. Lee Lamb of-
ficiating. Burial was held Thurs-
day, Oct. 7 in the Hastings Cem-
etery in Waurika, Okla.
Ms. Pruitt was born Dec. 20,
1950 and is survived by her
mother and two sisters.

Funeral services for Robert
Vernon (Bob) Smith, 57, of Austin,
were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct.
12, 1993 at Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Giddings with Rev.
Wilbern Michalk officiating.
Burial was in the Giddings City
Cemetery.
Mr. Smith died Sunday, Oct. 10
at Seton Hospital in Austin.
He was born Set. 23, 1936 in La
Grange, the son of Adam Vernon
Smith and Lady Faye Chalk.
He married Loretta Mantzel and
was a retired attorney for the
State of Texas.
Survivors include: wife, Loretta
Smith of Austin; two sons and
daughters-in-law, Dr. Grayson
and Karen Smith of San Marcos
and Mark and Dr. Jeanette Smith
of Dallas; grandson, Cullen David
Smith of San Marcos; and a
brother, Jesse Smith of La
Grange.
He was preceded in death by his
parents and one sister, Neil Mor-
gan.
Funeral services for Minna Irene
Hobratschk, 88, of Giddings were
held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10,
1993 at Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Giddings with Rev.
Wilbern Michalk officiating.
Burial was in the Giddings City
Cemetery.
Ms. Hobratschk died Thursday,
Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at Giddings Con-
valescent Center.
She was born Sept. 16, 1905 in
Warda, the daughter of Gerhardt
Biehle and Theresia Tschatschula
Biehle.
She married Walter Berger and
was a homemaker.
Survivors include: two daugh-
ters, Irene and Clarence Noack of

Stearns led the Eagles power
game with 7 kills while Johnson
led the Bulldogs with 6; but Mor-
gan with 6 and Biehle with 5 gave
the team advantage to Lexington.
District record for the Eagles is
4 1 with Thorndale falling 2-3.
In sub-varsity play Thorndale
came from behind to win both
matches 15-12,5-15,15-8 in Fresh-
men; and 4-15,15-6,15-9 in JV.
Earlier last week the Lexington
Lady Eagles soared past the
Salado Lady Eagles, 15-2,15-9.
Lexington struck quickly in the
first game with Rhodes scoring 2
followed by Jennifer Clark and
Stearns with 6 each for a 14-2 lead
before Hobbs hit the game winner.
Salado improved in the second
game; but Lexington moved
quickly to the victory. Biehle,
Clark and Thurman each served
one point, Hibbler followed with 3
and Bonnie Kolacek made 4 for a
10-9 lead. Biehle served a point,
Thurman 2, and Clark one before
Hibbler finished it off at 15-9.
There were no sub-varsity
games.

Giddings Cross Country teams to
compete in the Academy Bee Meet
at Temple last Saturday.
Anthony King placed tenth in the
junior varsity boys division.
Brooke Maass placed fifth in the
junior varsity girls division.
April Holcomb placed third in the
junior high girls division.

The Giddings varsity volleyball
team lost to Rockdale Friday night
in two games 15-10 and 15-12.
Giddings ended the first round of
district volleyball play with a
record of 4-1 and second place.
Rockdale is first with a record of
5-0.
Last Tuesday Giddings defeated
Caldwell in a three game match
15-7, 15-17 and 15-11.
In junior varsity action against
Caldwell Giddings won 15-10, and
15-10. The team is 4-0 in district

With victories over Salado, Lady
Eagles and Thorndale Lady Bull-
dogs last week the Lexington
Lady Eagles held on to second
place in the District 26 AA volley-
ball race.
In the crucial battle with
Thorndale, Friday, Lexington had
to come from behind in both
games, winning 15-9, 15-13.
Lexington broke the serve of
Thorndale eight straight times in
the first two rounds during which
time the Eagles built a 9-7 mar-
gin. Gina Wuensche got a point for
the Bulldogs while Jenna White,
Biehle and Thurman each made a
point for the Eagles.
Morgan served 2 points for an
11-7 edge; but Cheryl Menzel cut
the Eagle lead to 11-9. Jenna
White scored twice for Lexington
and Amanda Hobbs finished oft
the victory with two aces.
Jennifer Clark scored the only
point for Lexington in the first
round while Thorndale moved out
to a 9-1 lead on 8 straight points
by Cheryl Menzel and another by
Wuensche. While breaking the
Bulldogs serve five straight times
the Eagles closed in with 3 points
each by Morgan and Stearns and
one by Heather Rhodes. Tracey
Hibbler scored 3 to put Lexington
ahead 11-9 before Michele
Hernandez hit 2 to tie the
game,11-11.
The Lady Eagles took a 14-11
Giddings and Carolyn and
Clarence Mitschke of Houston;
one son, Norman and Mildred
Berger of Giddings; two step-chil-
dren, Adeline and Willie
Schroeder of Giddings and Albert
and Gertrude Hobratschk of
Kerrville; two sisters, Martha Toll
of Cedar Park and Elsie Schnell of
Warda; 19 grandchildren and 27
great-grandchildren.

Giddings students
elected to Concordia
student government
Leah (Kuhlmann) Wolf, and
Melodi Paskett, both of Giddings,
were elected for 1993-94 as a se-
nior representative for the Stu-
dent Government Association at
Concordia Lutheran College of
Texas in Austin. Leah is the
daughter of Lavine and Brice
Kuhlmann of Giddings. She is a
senior, majoring in behavioral sci-
ences. Melodi is the daughter of
Glenda and Rex Paskett of
Giddings. She is a senior business
management/accounting major.

Texas, a member-college of the
Concordia University System of
The Lutheran Church-Missouri
Synod, offers the Bachelor of Arts
degree in seventeen programs and
majors.
