EDITOR’S NOTE: The follow-
ing is a letter sent by .John .1.
Bailey, president of First City.
Texas - Aransas Pass, to Senator
Phil Gramm and Rep. Kika de la
Garza in Washington, D.C. In
addition, copies were sent to
Aransas Pass Mayor Bob Watson
and Ingleside Mayor Mark Craw -
ford, as well as The Aransas Pass
Progress and The Ingleside
Index.
It was my understanding that
when we acquired Homeport and
fought for it locally as well as
Texas-wide, this would provide
jobs and employment for the local
economy which included Aran-
sas Pass and Ingleside. This was a
selling point to the locals
Currently, it is impossible to
reach the Civil Service or even get

The money comes in a block
grant to the state and is .distri-
buted by the Texas Department
of Highways and Public Trans-
portation.
All the projects for which
grants are asked are continua-
tions of services now in place.
Kleberg County asks #227,905
to continue a demand responsive,
semi-fixed route system which
the application says served 1,130
people in the previous year in
Kleberg and Kenedy Counties.
Most are described as elderly,
handicapped and indigent.
Transportation is both to senior
centers for meals and services
and to Corpus Christi for medical
attention or technical assistance
such as with social security.
They operate 11 vehicles with a
cost of from #5.15 to #6.16 per
passenger trip.
The Rural Economic Assist-
ance League in Alice asks
#303,420 to serve Jim Wells and
Brooks Counties with a door to
door responsive system and a fee

ing unless the applicants are a
policeman or firefighter. All other
positions are filled from within
Civil Service because there is a
hiring freeze.
These administrative positions
are being filled with transfers
from Beeville and Corpus Christi.
I do not understand why the
local people, and in many cases
more qualified individuals, are
not given the opportunity to even
l>e considered for the positions.
Serving the groom as best man
was Jim Williams of Ingleside.
Groomsman was Darrell Mont-
gomery of Ingleside. Ringbearer

nephew of the groom
