J. A. Harkrider of the Nine
community long time subscriber of
The Brady Standard, was in last
Saturday and moved his zubscrip-
ton dates up for another year on
his twice-a-week newspaper. Mr.
Harkrider said the east side «f
his ranch received a pretty good
shower last week and the gram
passed a month ago is enacted,
we will be in fairly good shape.
Our farmers will get credit for
the war crops planted during the
4-year base period, and our dis-
trict will be able to plant about
51,000 acres more than will be
the case if the bill is not passed.
In any event Texas will be al-
lotted about 7 - million acres for
cotton in 1951. The big problem
is over how and by what formula
the Texas acres are to be distri-
buted.

twice-a-day service is used. More-
over, the Post Office Department
goes deeper in the red each year,
and here the Postmaster General
made a cut which inconveniences
very few and saves the taxpayers
around $70 million annually.
The daily-double delivery would
apply to about half the people.
There art 38 million on rural
routes and in suburban areas who

A SORRY SPECTACLE took
place in the House when by a vote
of 264 to 108 the Postmaster
General was ordered to restore
certain cuts, including double
daily mail delivery service, which
he made last April. About 970
million a year in saving was in-
volved. The bill has not been acted
upon in the Senate and even if
passed is sure to be vetoed by the
President. The rescission order
was favored by a coalition mainly
of northern Democrats and Repub-
licans.
Actually, the double-daily mail
delivery is non-essential. About
85% of mail is included in the
first delivery each day, when
— they lost an all-out fight to re-j
elect Claude Pepper in Florida, and I
liberal Senator Graham of South
Carilina was bumped off Then the
other day, despite a determined
fight by the political arms of
both big unions, Senator Glen Tay-
lor, the left-wing Wallaceite from
Idaho, was nosed out by former ‘
month ago and its fate is now in
the hands of the Senators.
It will be recalled that by a
tortuous interpretation of the
aercuge allotment law last Fall by
the Secretary of Agriculture,
Texas was brought under the sol
called California gadget and de-
prived of credit for war crops
planted during the base period.
Early this year we were able to
get a bill through to give our cot-
ton farmers proper credits for this
year. But unless the House bill
now in the Senate is enacted, Tex-
as next year will go back to the
California gadget and our dis-
trict will be the loser by about
51,000 acres.
But if the House bill, which we
