Brenham council
halts development
of new trailer lots
The Brenham City Council
has put a moratorium of at
least 120 days on any mobile
home development inside the
city limits.
This will allow city officials to
look at how they might want to
modify mobile home regula-
tions, which haven't been up-
dated for more than 25 years.
At issue is whether mobile
home parks or subdivisions will
ever be allowed inside the city
limits and development stan-
dards for mobile home parks.
In mobile home parks, owners
rent spaces. In subdivisions,
they would buy the site.
In a mobile home subdivision,
those units would be subject to
the same setback requirements
as conventional homes, and the
density in such a development
would be much less than a mo-
bile home park, raising costs of
development.
Homeowners in the Market
Square subdivision off Becker
Drive in Brenham have raised
concerns to the council about a
proposed four-acre mobile
home park that would abut
their neighborhood.
Residents there have said
they would prefer not to have
mobile homes so close, but have
asked the council at a mini-
mum to declare it a mobile
home park.
