off road, hits fence
A Giddings vehicle was in an
accident Saturday, March 8 at
9:45 p.m. about one-half mile
southeast of Giddings on Lee
County Road 216.
The driver of the 1992 Toyota
Corolla, Kori Jaye Maass,
was going west on CR 116
when she failed to negotiate a
sharp curve to the left and ran
off the right side of the road,
said DPS Trooper Robert
Thorp.
She then overcorrected to the
left, sliding across the road-
way into the south ditch and
struck a fence, reported
Trooper Thorp.
There were no injuries re-
ported.

A pickup pulling a car ran off
the road Wednesday, March 5
at 4:20 p.m. about 6 miles
north of Giddings on U.S. 77.
The driver of the 1986 Jeep
Comanche pickup, Cortinas
Alejandro of Matamoras,
Mexico, was towing a car be-
hind his vehicle when the tie
rod broke and both vehicles
ended up in the bar-ditch, said
DPS Trooper Bruce Opper-
mann.
There were no injuries re-
ported.

572 head of cattle end 12 hogs were sold for 98 consignors.
The market was steady to very active on all classes of livestock
with more demand on good light grass calves & yearlings and
good young stock cows and cow calf pairs. High yielding
butcher bulls and cows were $2-$3 higher.

The Giddings Lady Buffs Cardenas ripped a triple down

Former Congressman J.J.
Pickle will be the featured
speaker at the Giddings Area
Chamber of Commerce annual
banquet Friday, April 11.
The banquet will be held at
the Sons of Hermann Hall and
over 400 people are expected
to attend.
Activities get underway with
cocktails at 6 p.m., with a buf-
fet dinner at 7 p.m.
Included will be a raffle, spe-
cial presentations, live music
and awards.
Tickets are $12.50 per person
for chamber members and $15
per person for non-chamber
members.
