forming miracles today, even
though they aren't always rec-
ognized as such. And even
more miracles would be per-
formed if God's children had
stronger faith.
Even if we run into financial
problems and don't have
enough money to make ends
meet, we can remember the
time Jesus fed the five thou-
sand who had come out to hear
His preaching. He fed them all
with only two fish and five
loaves of bread (Mark 6:30-44).
And there was lots of food left
over.
If we trust in Jesus, He will
make our food and money go a
lot further than we could ever
think possible. As long as we
don't waste and we try to take
advantage of every opportunity
given to us, our financial diffi-
culties will soon subside.
Mark also records the trium-
phant entry of the Saviour into
Jerusalem as He prepared for
His suffering and death on the
cross.
One thing Jesus warns all of
us about is hypocrisy. He called
the Pharisees hypocrites be-
cause they acted like they were
perfect, trying to keep the let-
ter of the law, but their hearts
were sinful and unclean.
Quoting from Isaisih, Jesus
said, "These people honor me
with their lips, but their hearts
are far from me" (Mark 7:6).
What Jesus is saying is that
many people say they believe in
God and pretend they do, but
their hearts aren't filled with
love and compassion for others.
And Jesus could see into the
heart of the Pharisees - and He
can see into our heart.
This is what our Lord had to
say about our prayers: "When
you stand praying, if you hold
anything against anyone, for-
give him, so that your Father
may forgive you your sins"
(Mark 11:25).
Jesus said we must be willing
to forgive others if we expect to
be forgiven by God.

The gospel of Mark empha-
sizes more of what Jesus did
than what He said, giving us a
vivid description of the
Saviour's ministry and His pas-
sion.
During His later Galillean
ministry, Jesus preached to
large crowds who came to hear
His message. Mark records
many of the parables He told
for those who wanted to truly
know more about the coming
Kingdom of God.
One evening the Lord became
so weary that He and His dis-
ciples took a fishing boat across
the Sea of Galilee to escape the
crowds who came to hear His
message.
"A furious squall came up,
and the waves broke over the
boat, so that it was nearly
swamped," writes Mark in
chapter 5, beginning with verse
35.
Jesus was in the stem sleep-
ing, and the disciples woke
Him saying, "Teacher, don't
you care if we drown?"
He said to His disciples, "Why
are you so afraid? Do you still
have no faith?"
They were terrified by the
raging storm and waves, so
Jesus got up and said, "Quiet!
Be still!" Then the wind died
down and it was completely
still.
This is a lesson for all of us.
Storms are going to threaten us
at times, whether they're the
natural kind like thunder-
storms, tornadoes or hurri-
canes, or "storms" of another
nature. Or we could be hit by
financial storms or turmoil that
strikes our lives.
That's when we need to turn
everything over to Jesus. We
don't have to be afraid. When
we call out to Him, Jesus has
the power to say, "Quiet. Be
still!" and the storms that en-
compass our lives soon pass
over and everything is calm
again.
Mark also describes many of
the miracles performed by
Jesus. As followers of Christ,
each of us can be the recipient
of countless miracles in our
lives if we will only put our
faith in Jesus. He is still per-

portant, the Saviour said:
"Love the Lord your God with
all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your mind
and with all your strength. The
second is this: Love your neigh-
bor as yourself. There is no
commandment greater than
these" (Mark 12: 29:31).
This summarizes all of the
commandments and is really
all any of us need to know
about obedience to God. If we
live by these rules, we will be
happy and content - and our
lives will be pleasing to God.
Next week we will follow
Jesus during the week of His
