Williamson County.
Economic Director Mary
Garza reported that plans are
continuing on the renovation
of the old Brookshire Bros,
building. It is expected to cost
$750,000 for the total project,
including the $150,000 origi-
nal purchase price of the prop-
erty.
A major portion of the reno-
vation will be to air condition
and heat the building. Grants
are being sought for this work.
The Brown Foundation has
indicated interest in providing
money for the renovation.
Present plans call for half of
the building to be used for a
public library. The other half
may be used for a community
college or technical computer
school, aligned with a school
such as Austin Community
College. This plan would be
worked through a federal
EDA grant for an 18-month
period.
The county has received an
$8,000 grant for equipment for
a recycling center in Dime
Box. The corporation wrote up
the grant application for Com-
missioner Larry Wachsmann
who recently announced that
the grant had been approved.
The corporation will hold a
public hearing concerning the
purchase of property at the
Industrial Park. The cost of
24-26 acres adjacent to the
park is $1,500 per acre. Four
property owners with land
next to the railroad tracks are
interested in selling land to
the Giddings Economic Devel-
opment Corporation.
The corporation approved
eight revitalization grants for
local businesses.
Rejuvenation will bring their
electrical wiring up to code
and the Health Store will put
in a new sign with funds from
the grant.
Somewhere In Time will
paint a mural, replace the sign
and decorate and landscape
the property.
Troy's Auto Sales will in-
crease the area of pavement
and Edward Jones will use
grant money to repaint the top
of the building, replaster and
make a new concrete step.
Main Street Jewelers will
replaster the top of the build-
ing and regrate between the
bricks and Charlie's Bar and
F Deli will replace broken areas
5 at the top of the building.
F Magnolia Tree Antiques will
I replace their sign with the
