results in the Battle of Texas karate tournament: Sample earned second place
in kumite and fifth in kata in the intermediate men's division. Sensei Bray
judged and placed third in the over 35 Black Belt Kumite Division.

AHS Softball Girls edge Angleton
ANGLETON - The Alvin High School Varsity Softball Girls took sole
possession of second place in District 24-5A with a hard-earned 3-1 tri-
umph over Angleton, Friday night.
Alvin (16-6, 4-1 in District 24-5A) scored all its runs during the third
with Jennifer Dominguez’s lead-off triple triggering RBI singles by Melissa
Bullion, Samantha Oakley and Crystal Moody, Erin Bolton (five hits, seven
K’s) went the distance to improve her mound mark to 13-4.
The Lady Wildcats broke up Bolton’s shutout bid and loaded the bases

coaxed a grounder to shortstop Stephanie Denham (two hits), who threw
home for a force out, while a grounder to Oakley at third then ended it. The
Lady Jackets next host Clear Creek, Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Golf Club on Saturday. The benefit
