A roundup of the eight bond
propositions were as follows:
• Police/Court Building - $3.2
million - This facility is proposed
to be constructed in Downtown
Alvin, either on the block between
Gordon, Hardie, Sealy and Sidnor,
or in the downtown area east of
Gordon and south of the railroad
tracks. The structure will include
space for the police department, de-
tention facility, jail, Sally Port, and
municipal court.
* Community Center — $3.5

'Thumbs down'
to fire district
in county vote
Brazoria County voters decided
Saturday that a fire district should
not be created.
The vote total was 239 votes for
and 313 votes against, according to
figures from the county clerk's of-
fice.
The tax for the proposed district
would have been up to three cents
per $100 valuation.
The area involved would have in-
cluded a portion of the unincorpo-
rated area of Brazoria County, as
well as Surfside, Quintana, Bonney,
and Holiday Lakes.
Incorporated cities other than the
four listed above did not choose to
be included in the district, county
officials said.
Brazoria County Precinct 3
Commissioner Billy Joe Plaster had
expressed reservations about the
creation of the district during the
previous county commissioners
meeting.
