BREEDING PROGRAM KEEPS MONEY IN
DELL CITY , COSTS DOWN

DELL CITY—Last year FFA members spent about $5000 on show. pigs.
That was $5000 that left the economy to pay breeders in distant
communities, mostly in the Texas Panhandle. Prices for these out-
of-town prospects ranged from $50 to $350, putting so me of the high-
er quality prospects out of the reach of many families struggling just
to make ends meet.
A loosely organized group of individuals and families are providing
a solution which should help hold the line on show animal prices and
keep more Dell City dollars in Dell City. The solution is to produce
show quality swine in Dell City.
"Unfortunately, the show industry has devolved into a money game, ”
says Dell City agricultural instructor Tom Maynard. "We want to
counter that. I don’t think anyone should be consigned to the bottom
simply because they don't have money. "
Individuals farrowing show pigs this summer include Sammy Chacon,
Jr., Ben and Bekah Sanders and Maynard. The FFA also owns a gilt
which should be nursing a litter by the time this issue of the Herald
reaches you.
Nine litters of show pigs will be born this summer. Farrowing began
last month and will continue into the first week of September.
Genetics for the seedstock has come primarily from the midwest:
Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa and Oklahoma.
"So far my end of it has operated below break even level because
of the investment in seedstock, " says Maynard. "And then any
revenue above cost of production goes back into the operation. "
This notice concerns - 1990_____property tax rates for Sierra B1anca I . S . D^ presents information
about three tax rates. Last year’s tax rate is the actual rate the taxing unit used to determine property taxes last year.
This year’s effective tax rate would impose the same total taxes as last year if you compare properties taxed in both
years. T his year’s rollback tax rate is the highest tax rate the taxing unit can set before taxpayers can start tax rollback
procedures. In each case these rates are found by dividing the total amount of taxes by the tax base (the total value of
taxable property) with adjustments as required by state law. The rates are given per $100 of property value.

. We enjoyed a vacation that was split into by a few days back here
J in Dell City. We went to the Panhandle and saw family and friends
I up there. Then it was back here for a few days and off to South
Texas, where we enjoyed family, friends, and the beach.
, God protected us on a trip altogether of over 3, 000 miles. He
provided whatever we needed through many different sources. We
had only minor difficulties. Water pump went out, but happened
in a time and place that I could get parts cheaply, and do the work
myself. (Learned more patience, vans are difficult to work on).
We saw a few accidents, including one where a car had run off in
the water along the road. We saw some close calls, including a
couple that we could have been involved in, if not for God’s mercy.
I feel more relaxed, rested some ways, though that much travel
is tiring. I am reassured of the love and protection of God.
We are glad to be back safely in Dell City. We hope that we can
minister to you the love and grace of God. He is eager to show us
his love and grace, if only we will respond to His love and mercy
that He has already made manifest.
Yes, we are fine, thanks.
God bless,
Charley Pierson, Pastor
First Assembly of God Church
