TEXAS ENTERTAINMENT . ..
Professional entertainment in the early years of the
Republic of Texas was rare. In 1838 entrepreneur John
Carlos built a theater in Houston. In June of that year the
first “road show” ever to come to Texas opened with the
play “The Hunchback”.

According to the report, the
cost of providing one child with
a continum of preventative
services, beginning with pre-
natal and preventative health
care and continuing with Head
Start, Chapter 1 Compensatory
Education, summer jobs for high
school students, and four years
of college paid at public exp-
ense is $39, 000. In contrast,
the cost per year to keep one
juvenile delinquent in a Texas
training school is $25, 000.
The 4-H program has had a
positive influence on hundreds
of thousands of youth for more
than 80 years, and it will con-
tinue to lay a solid foundation
for those who avail themselves
of its benefits. Our youth are
the most precious resource we
have; they are our future. To
assure a prosperous future for
Hudspeth County and Texas,
we must invest in our youth
development programs with
time, money and other
support.

According to two surveys con-
ducted by Pennsylvania State
University researchers, young
adults, especially young women,
are increasing their consumption
of milk. The three major reasons
cited for this are: milk's calcium,
protein and vitamin content; the
desire to encourage one's
children to drink more milk; and
the taste of milk. However, this
study also suggests that people
increasing their consumption of
milk barely outnumber those
decreasing their milk intake.
