Police say they first noticed White
as he swerved across traffic lanes
eastbound on South St.
As police pursued the intoxicated
driver, they say his speed increased
from 48 to 65 miles per hour in the 30
mile-per-hour zone.
When the vehicle was finally
stopped, officers asked White for his
insurance information, but they say
he instead provided them with his
loan paperwork, claiming he thought
that was the proper insurance proof.
Police then subjected White to the
routine sobriety tests, each of which
police say he failed.
Officers added that White, repeat-

Felony DWI
• Hobert Winston White, 35, was
charged with felony DWI July 6,
• Police say two victims of an
assault at a local club could not pro-
vide information about why they had
been attacked, because the conflict
had arisen out of nowhere, ending as
quickly.
The couple, who told police they
have only been in .town a little while,
said they thought a case of mistaken
identity may have led a man to come
into the bar, shatter a beer bottle over
the man's head and strike the woman
with a pool cue.
While the woman had a reddened
area on her hand, the man had a gash
on his head which EMS personnel
said would take about 20 sutures to
close, reports show.

Shopping spree
• Police responded Jan.4 to a
local supermarket, where man-
agers said more than $3,500 in
phony checks had been used to
purchase products.
Officials say the six checks were
written on the same two days in
December, with three different
names cashing one check apiece
on each day.
All of the checks were suppos-
edly issued from the same bank,
had false Alvin addresses and
incorrect zip codes for the area,
and one set actually had the name
for Alvin misspelled, showing
Alvine as the town, records show.
The drafts had been returned to
the store as forgeries, which led
store officials to pursue the state-
jail felony charges.
Police inquiries to all three
names showed them to be
Houston-area residents, but there
was no indication that these peo-
ple had been identified as suspects
in the case.
