Last year, the City of Alvin request-
ed that the Teas Department of
Transportation review the speed limit
on State Highway 35 Bypass through
Alvin. TxDOT conducted a traffic and
engineering study and recommended
changes to the Prima Facie speed lim-
its along Stale Highway 35 within the
Alvin city limits.
The Alvin City council approved
these changes on March 15, 2001. As
a result, the following speed limits
will take effect within the next four
weeks.
• 55 mph
From the northern city limits
of Alvin to FM 517
• 50 mph
From FM 517 to almost 1200
feet south of FM 517

UPDATE:
A call from the mother of the boy who was run over by a float during the Frontier Day parade reveals the boy is recovering and doing well. The boy was reportedly trying to get back onto
the float when his foot got caught in the wheel, dragging him under the tire Minor lacerations to his liver are reportedly healing well, and according to the mother, the boy was released less
than three days later, after close observation by doctors at Hermann Memorial Hospital.
The mother said no surgery was suggested to her during the course of his treatment.
