Committed to giving Spanish stu-

true grasp of the language as well as
experience the culture, ACC provided
students with an opportunity to travel
to Spain for a 17-day “hands-on”
excursion.
During the trip, ACC focused on the

immersion experience and required
students to reside in the local dormito-
ries or with host families, attend orga-
nized Spanish classes daily and experi-
ence cultural activities in the evening.
Although noticeable cultural differ-
ences were apparent to the students in
the beginning, they would later realize
that “one can gain a better perspective
and learn more by studying abroad
because you can blend in with the peo-
ple and share their experiences,” said
Brittany Lyndsey who recently spent
one year abroad in Madrid.
The Spanish trip, although new to
the college, seeks to immerse students
into the most challenging environment
where they would be required to apply
the Spanish that they learned while
abroad.

Amalia Duiin Parra, ACC chair of for-

Parra recognized the educational
benefits of the trip to Spain and was
confident that it would provide a valu-
able and rare learning experience to
the students. "This is not just an oppor-
tunity to study and travel,” said Parra.
‘The multicultural experience is very
important”
Although the ACC Spanish
Department awards the appropriate
academic credits for the trip to Spain,
they partnered with ENFOREX, the
Center of International Studies, to pro-
vide competitive Spanish instruction
and equip their students with the nec-
essary skills to be successful in their
chosen career fields.
ENFOREX is certified by the
Spanish Chamber of Commerce and
holds CEELE certification granted by
the Universidad de Alcal (Certificate
of Education of Spanish as a Foreign
Language).
