1, Alvin ISD received official notifi-
cation of its exemplary rating.
Alvin ISD has been a recognized
district for the past four years. Gains
in student scores on the TAAS test, as
well as a significantly low drop-out
rate, moved the District up to exem-
plary status, the highest rating given
by the Texas Education Agency.
Alvin ISD joins Brazosport, Sweeny,
Damon, West Columbia and
Angleton as top-rated school districts
in the county.
“High school students will
encounter some changes in where
they can be dropped off and picked
up this year,” said Kevon Wells, prin-
cipal of Alvin High School.
“To ensure the safety of students
during the construction projects at
Alvin High School, the parking and
pick-up and drop-off of students has
been changed,” he said.
This year, all student parking will
be in the Gym 3 or athletic parking
lots on both the home and visitor
sides.
“Although adequate parking is
anticipated for students, parking
stickers will be sold on a limited basis
beginning with seniors,” said Wells.
Senior students at Alvin High
School may purchase a parking per-
mit beginning Aug. 12 at the AISD
police office on the high school cam-
pus. Parking permits will be available
to juniors beginning Aug. 19 and
available to sophomores and fresh-
men beginning Aug. 26.
“There will only be 500 permits
sold, and students are advised to pur-
chase their permits as early as possi-
ble.” Wells added. “Only one permit
per student will be issued. All stu-
dents parking at AHS will be required
