The Texas Senate has recently
joined together to unanimously
support a school finance package.
While it has not been , filed,
because legislation, including tax
structure changes must originate
in the House of Representatives,
this proposed outline serves as an
excellent framework for reform-
ing the way Texas funds our pub-
lic schools.
The plan breaks down into three
parts, the first of which lists the
goals of school excellence and
finance reform.
The senate aims to improve the
quality of public education for all
students, substantially reduce the
local property tax burden, ensure
equity through means other than

Be a good neighbor,
pick up your trash
Dear Editor:
I, for one, am tired of picking up
other people’s trash out of my yard
and street.
It’s totally disrespectful for some-
one else to have to pick up dirty dia-
pers, paper plates, old newspapers,
cans, etc., etc. that belong to someone
in your own neighborhood.
Why would anyone want their pri-
vate information on old bills, letters
and such blowing all over town?
If your trash day is on a Monday -
wait and put it out on Monday. If you
have anything in your trash with food
of any kind on it - you can be sure
someone will be picking it up on
Sunday if you put it out early - and it
won’t be your Sanitation
Department’s truck.
It’s okay to put out yard clippings -
