The Lower Colorado River Au-
thority this week notified state and
federal regulators that its critical
electric generation and transmission
systems are ready for date changes
associated with the year 2000.
"This milestone is significant for
the LCRA because the most diffi-
cult work is behind us. Now we can
focus on testing contingency plans
and on planning for the rollover
event itself," said Joane Rylander,
LCRA's Year 2000 project man-
ager.
The LCRA also has been testing
other critical operations, such as the
Highland Lakes dams on the Col-

utilities, and telecommunications
systems. These systems also are
ready for the year 2000.

Residents of Rio Llano Sub-
division held a meeting last
Thursday to discuss their next
course of action in attempting
to limit vehicle traffic in the
Llano River at a county park
located there.
According to Dr. Margaret
Hicks, who spoke to the Llano
County Commissioners Court
last week regarding the prob-
lem, the residents are not try-
ing to deny anyone access to
the river, they just want to re-
strict the use of vehicles on the
river.
She also clarified that the
group also told commission-
ers that they could install py-
lons £o block vehicle access to
the river on the end Rio Llano
Drive, West at no cost to the
county.
"It was Commissioner (Leon
Tucker’s) idea to request a
pipe fence but all we want to do
is use telephone poles,” Hicks
said. “We can get those from

path of an International cab-
over truck. According to Lla-
no Police Chief James Schill-
ing, Gibbs was attempting to
enter Curb Service conven-
ience store.
The accident occurred at
7:22 p.m. and Schilling said
that the setting sun could have
been a factor but that speed did
not appear to be a causing fac-
tor.
The truck struck the right
quarter and passenger area of
the vehicle, sending it back
across the street where it came
to rest in a ditch located on the
westbound side of the high-
way.

“We’re going to have some
of the same problems with
materials on every project
right now,” warned Fields.
“Construction steel is simply
hard to come by on any site.”
Now that the steel is up on the
Packsaddle site, other sub-
contractors can go about their
individual tasks.
“We’re not raising the panic
flags yet,” Fields said of the
Packsaddle campus.
The LISD Board of Trustees
opted not to send portable
buildings to the site in the in-
terim but to keep the students
in their own class groups in-
stead.
