Oral History Interview with Ed Stone and George DeLong (Sound)
The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Ed Stone and George DeLong. This interview was conducted with a group. Both Stone and DeLong were in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attack occurred. DeLong was aboard the USS Oklahoma (BB-37) after it was struck and rolled over. They share their stories of how Stone and his crew rescued DeLong and his crew from the Oklahoma, and their overall experiences during the attack. DeLong later served as a Quartermaster aboard the USS Helena (CL-50), participating in the Battle of Guadalcanal. He also served aboard the USS Crater (AK-70) and the USS Dixie (AD-14), where he assisted with atomic weapons experiments at Bikini Atoll. Stone served as a radioman aboard the USS Pyro (AE-1).
