  • Content Description: The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Henry Ricci. Ricci served as a first lieutenant with the medical detachment of the 132nd Infantry, Americal Division during the battle for Guadalcanal. He tells a riveting tale of the kill or be killed culture that existed during the conflict. He describes the hand-to-hand combat on Bloody Ridge, killings by the Japanese under a flag of truce, targeting of medics, stretcher bearers and patients, and the torture of American captives. He graphically tells of the hellish weather, massive jungle and constant battle with leeches and snakes. He recalls having reoccurring bouts of malaria and tells of combat related nightmares long after returning to the United States.
