This is Ed Metzler. Today is the 14th of December, 2013. I am at the Admiral
Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas, and I am interviewing Mr. Clinton
Shoppe. This interview is in support of the Nimitz Education and Research
Center, archives for the National Museum of the Pacific War, Texas Historical
Commission, for the preservation of historical information related to this site.
So, Clinton, I'd like to start by thanking you for coming in here; I know it's...a
cold and windy day, and coming in and sharing your experiences with us. I'd
like to start by having you give us your full name and date and place of birth.
Uh, Clinton Shoppe.... Burleson County, Snook...residence.
And what was your date of birth?
September 11th 1924.
So, you're a 9-11 guy then?
Right.
My goodness! 1924, so, let's see that makes you...eighty-nine years old.
Right.
Wow! Okay, and...so, what did your dad do for a living?
Farmed.
I see. Was he a...did he own land or was he a...
For a while he did; have...eventually had to go back 'cause the interest was
higher than your rent.
Yeah, that was...those...those were tough years to be a farmer anyhow weren't
they?
It sure was.
