Oral History Interview with Leon Foote (Text)
The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Leon Foote. Foote was born in Texas on 4 November 1925. Upon being drafted into the Army in September 1944, he went to Fort Hood, Texas for thirteen weeks of basic training. Soon thereafter, he was sent to Cebu, Philippines where he joined the 23rd Infantry Division (Americal Division). He comments that he saw limited action during his time on the island. Following the surrender of Japan the division went to Yokohama, Japan as part of the occupational force. After a year of occupational duty with the Americal Division, Foote was assigned to the 519th Military Police Battalion. He tells of some of his experiences as a military policeman. After a year of duty as an MP, he returned to the United States and was discharged.
