Skat Tournament
At Airline Sunday
The annual State Skat Tour-
nament will be held Airline
Hall on Sunday, Sept. 1.
Another State Skat Tourna-
ment will be held at New
Braunfels on the same date.
Skat is still a popular game
with many people. Good players
say, you can always learn more’
about the game, the more you
play it. Of course, luck has to
be with you.
The ASC office this week
mailed ballots to farmers and
ranchers in Lee County for

Mission Festival Set •
At Martin Luther
The annual Mission Festival
at the Martin Luther Church
will be held Sunday, Sept. 15.
Guest speaker for the 8 and
10:30 a.m. services will be the
Rev. Milroy Gregor, of Frels-
burg-New Ulm parish.
In the afternoon at 3 p. m.
the Rev. H C. Ziehe of Sandy
Hill will preach the German
sermon. He will also preach
in the vesper service at 8 p.m.
At 9:15 a. m. the Sunday
School will have a special
Mission Festival Rally.
Everyone is cordially invited
to attend these services.
The cheerleaders have also
been getting ready for the 1957
season by practicing each day
for the past two weeks. They
are Bernice Mitschke, head
cheerleader, Fancita Beyer, Jo-
hana Jatzlau, Carolyn Hilton,
and Janice Wagner'.

The Dime Box Public School
will open on Friday, Sept. 6 at
8:30 for registration. All stu-
dents are urged to register at
this time. Regular classwork
will begin on Monday, Sept. 9.

Pupils to Register
At Immanuel School
Thursday and Friday
Registration of all pupils to
be enrolled at Immanuel Lu-
theran School will take place
Thursday and Friday, Aug. 29
and 30, in special Parent-Tea-
cher League registration meet-
ing.
The program for Thursday
evening, starting at 7:30, will
be for those having children in
grades one thru four. Friday’s
meeting wil be for the parents
of all pupils of grades five
thru eight.
Special emphasis is being
placed on requesting both pa-
rents to be present for the re-
gistration. Fathers as well as
mothers are expected to attend.
An interesting program is be-
ing planned for all.
Following the welcome of the
teachers the parents will be
asked to fill out registration
cards for their children of the
primary grades. Tuition fees
will be collected from those of
other churches whose children
are attending Immanuel School,
and bus fares will be collected
from those riding the school
bus or station wagon
Of interest to all parents will
be the Handbook prepared by
the new principal, John J.

"Our School - Immanuel Lu-
theran. Giddings, Texas.”

bring about a greater interest

ment of their children.

tival at Ledbetter has been set
for Sunday, Sept 8 A beef bar-

6 p.m. All kinds of entertain-
ment in afternoon and a dance
at night with music by Gus
Lindermann’s Orchestra.
The Ledbetter Fire Depart-
ment extends a cordial invita-
tion to everyone.
DON’T FORGET the Dime
Box Volunteer Firemen’s annu-
al barbecue and celebration on
Sunday, Sept 1 As usual, there
will be plenty good Lee County
style beef and pork barbecue,
and sausage sold at reasonable
rates, entertainment through-
out the day and a big dance at
night with Jimmie Heap fur-
nishing the music.
The boys at Dime Box are to
be commended on the progress
they, have made in their Fire
Department and of the vast a-
mount of property they have
saved because of their alert-
ness and efficiency in fighting
fire
They certainly deserve your
patronage Sunday.
REMEMBER the water ski-
ing and boat rides at Balcar
Lake, Sept. 1. The Water Bugs
of Beaumont will put on a show
the adults.
Anyone desiring to contribute
money to the show should con-
tact Monroe Hannes in Gid-
dings.
Members of the Lee County
Sheriffs Posse and the show
committee plan to appear on
the Lee County Agent’s tele-
vision program on Sept. 13 at
r:15.a.-m. over KTBC-TV in
Austin. More details will be
announced weekly in this paper.
