The number assigned any county I
depends on the number of reports I
turned in on last year’s work to the
State office. The boys from this coun- l
ty had a high average of reports.
We are hoping to lie able to enroll
members for 19:9 during November.
The boys are grooming some lambs
for the Graham Fair which comes off
next week. They also plan to enter
these lambs in the Dallas Fair. They
will have lambs in toth the fat and
J
Boys’ 4-H Club Work
We are securing reports from each !
elub member in the county. Each club j
is being visited as rapidly as we can
get around to them. Tile majority of .
them have already been visited.
As these reports are secured, those]
qualifying for the Dallas Fair En- j
campment are being selected. These '
awards are being made on the basis I
of results as shown by the boys from
over the county. We will soon be ready
to announce the ten boys eligible for
this trip to Dallas. These boys will be ,
a part of the three hundred 4-H club
boys from over the state who will be

Secretary of Agriculture Wallace
to Speak
We anticipate every farmer in this
saxetiou will want to hear Henry A.
Wallace speak next Friday. 10:00 a.
m., at the Will Rogers Coliseum at
Fort Werth. Texas A large delega-
tion will leave here promptly at 9:00
a. m. for Fort Worth .to attend the
meeting. It is hopedi AU vocational
teachers, and county and community
committeemen will atempt to secure
delegations to attend this meeting.
Texas is fortunate indeed to have
the Secretary of Agriculture attend
the state just at this, time to discuss j
naional farm problems, problems that
very materially affect this state.
We feel sure Wise county will have
a larger delegation of both business .
men and farmers and farm women at1
this meeting. It is really an oppor- !
tunity that we cannot affor to pass i
up.
< otton Samples Being Sent to Dallas
Farmers in the Ithome and Slidell
communities are taking advantage of I
the Inited States Classing Service at
Dallas, and are sending in large num-
iers of saniples to lie graded and
stapled.
Slidell sent seventy-two samples in
■ no shipment, and Rhome farmers
have sent in around fifty samples. It
. nly takes a couple of days to get the
returns on these samples.
They are trying to determine whe-
ther the cotton grown from tin one-
variety seed is of the quality they
wish to grow in the future.
supplies of seed are being assem.91-
id for next year’s planting, and it is
contemplated that each farmer mem-
l er will have one-variety only on his
farm which, of course, will lie thej
adopted variety.
The Chico Colt Show
The show was championed by Mr.
B F Wyatt, vocational teacher. The
farmers and breeders co-operated very I
nicely with him in the effert. They
exhibited colts from all over that end
of the county.
The various classes were filled, and |
in many instances the placing was dif:
ficuit. The placings were made by Bill
Jernigan and myself.
The following placings were made
Mule Colt
First. Chas. Jones; second, Riley
Scott, third. Jeff Mosier.
Draft Horse Colts
First. Earl Stone second, Ed Flow-
ers, third, we failed to get the name.
Saddle Horse Cults
First. Bill Bettes: sec....... G. ’’
Mount: third, we failed to gel the
name.
The farmers of this area are aware j
that good work stock are now needed
for replacements, and are doing their
best to supply the demand.

The Peanut Diversion Program E
The 111:1 jwanut diversion program •
has ien annomnce by the marketing E
section of the Agricultural Adjust- E
ment Administration. M
The Southwestern Peanut Growers/E
Association of the Agricultural Ad =
just ment Administration.
The Southwestern Peanut Growers
Association will be authorized to
purchase peanuts from farmers at the
following prices per bushel:
Spanish V. S. No. 1—94 1-2c.
Spanish T. S. No. 2—SS l-2c
Spanish I’. S. No. 3—Sic.
delivered to the association's ware-
house. This was perhaps the simplest,
most direct, and effective part of any
of the Trippie A program last year.
This is a surplus removal program
in which the Association growers take
the surplus from farmers at a price
agreed upon and divert a sufficient
amount of his surplus to oil and meal
so that the remainder of the crop
will bring a price based on its value
for edible nuts. The Secretary of Ag- I
riculture indemnifies the association
for the difference between the price
paid to farmers and the price receiv-
ed from the crushers.
The warehouse for receiving these
peanuts have not been announced, but
will be soon.
Trinity Kiver Basin Survey
v This survey is now underway, and I
is being conducted by army officers
in co-operation with the United States
Department of Agriculture. This en-
tire county will lx- involved in the sur- I
vey as it lies wholly in the Trinity
River basin. •
