was made last week by Seadrift Union ‘Carbide
plant manager Bob Barry on behalf of his com-
pany with a $294,821 check. Mrs. Myrtle Foester,
deputy tax collector, is accepting the check
for 1961 taxes.

He has asked that a 1956 law
providing government-sponsor-
ed insurance “against damage
from rising water alone" be im-
plemended. He has heard re-
ports that insurance companies
may withdraw from coverage
below tS feet elevation along
the coast, the senator said.
Yarborough credited Con-
gressman Clark Thompson with
a longtime effort to obtain
Matagorda Ship Channel approv-
al, adding that "I happened to
toe in the right place at the
right time to help out in the
final push."
He praised Thompson’s “long
and dedicated” efforts towards
Gulf coast development.
Thompson was also a featur-
ed speaker on the banquet prp-
gram He traced the longtime
effort for the Matagorda Ship
Channel. and credited Vice Pre-
sident Lyndon Johnson, Speak-
er Sam Rayburn and Senator
Yarborough with “its ultimate
success ”
Thompson was introduced by
Lenertz, who was master of
ceremonies for the banquet and
the senator was introduced by
Jean Day. a fellow native of
Henderson County.
The banquet was sponsored
by the Calhoun County Demo-
cratic Women, who introduced
the “Ralph Yarborough Day”
occasion The special event was
proclaimed by mayors of all
Calhoun towns and by the coun-
ty commissioners court through
Judge Howard Hartzog.
Mrs. Lois DeShazor, who
heads the equnty women’s
group, was hostess for the ban-
quet and introduced the even-
program.
