This is Bill Alexander at the Nimitz
Museum. I'm interviewing Mr. Ray Hechler
in order to get his experiences while he
was serving on the light cruiser USS Helena
during the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor
on December 7, 1941. After Pearl Harbor,
Mr. Hechler also participated in the
Solomon Islands Campaign and the amphibious
assault on Peleliu Island.
All right, sir, what I'm going to ask
you is where and when you were born.
I was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, on
February 3, 1919.
