A brief statement of the nature
of this suit is as follows, to-wit:
On or about August 27, 1984, at
McAllen, Texas the defendant
executed and delivered to Plaintiff a
promissory note dated August 27,
1984 whereby he promised to pay
to the order of Plaintiff at McAllen,
Texas the principal sum of
$6,777.91 together with interest
from said date until maturity at the
rate of 15% per annum. Said note
was due and payable in twelve [12]
monthly .installments: eleven [11]
intallments of $530.00 each begin-
ning September 27, 1984, and on
the same day of each succeeding
month thereafter with a final
installment of $1,581.50 due on
August 27, 1985. The Defendant
defaulted in payment of the note.
Accordingly, on May 31, 1985
McAllen State Bank accelerated the
remaining unpaid principal de-
claring same, along with accrued

Rev. Guillermo Fuentes, a native of Oaxaca, Mexico, has served the
-congregation at the First Mexican Baptist Church of Mercedes for
seven years.
He attended primary and secondary schools in Oaxaca and is a
graduate of the Rio Grande Valley Bible Institute.
Prior to coming to Mercedes, she served eight years as a missionary
in Cordoba, Veracruz.
He and his wife, Carmen, have three children, Raquel, 12, and
twins Guillermo, Jr. and Herman, eight.
Services at the church include 9:20 a.m. Sunday school and 10:30
a.m. Sunday morning worship, with Sunday evening services beginning
at 7 p.m.
A mid-week service starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Lara of Progreso, has completed
training in fundamental military
skills at the Army ROTC Challenge
camp, formerly Basic camp, at Fort
Knox, Kentucky.
The Challenge camp is designed
to give college juniors and
sophomores who have not taken
ROTC courses the chance to enter
the program. The camp also
qualifies high school graduates for
the ROTC program at any of the
nation’s six military junior colleges.
During the encampment, cadets
received training in basic rifle
marksmanship, military drill and
ceremonies, communications and
individual and small unit tactics.

I know that the City of Mercedes
is broke, but this is ridiculous.
It was my understanding that
when one opens a place of
business, one pays a deposit for
opening utilities, but this is a little
too much.
Who ever heard of charging a
customer $54.78 for installing the
water meter, (the City calls it
Installation fee), so at the end, they
keep that money and the business
loses that money.
But the key word in all this is:
“Installation fee.” They do not call
it a “DEPOSIT.” I would call it a
City of Mercedes rip-off.
