The South Texas Symphony Asso-
ciation is hosting its Annual Family
Night Activities at the UTPA Fine
Arts Center Fountain on May 1, for
SERVICE
two hours prior to that night's perfor-
mance of the Valley Symphony Or-
chestra.
The event is conducted each year
to show appreciation for the support
that the Valley gives to its symphony
and to offer subscribers their last
chance to renew subscriptions and keep
their seats for the 40th Anniversary
Season beginning next October 6.
Entertainers involved in the Fam-
ily Night portion of this evening will
be guitarists from the South Texas
Classic Guitar Society and some per-
formers fromMcAllen Memorial High
School. Barbecue, refreshments and
entertainment will be made available
between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
After the Family Night activities
have ended, at 8 p.m. everyone will be
invited inside for the last Valley Sym-
phony Orchestra concert of the 1991-
92 Celebrate Discovery Season.
The concert will feature the Or-
chestra performing works of Strauss
and Handel and a piece composed by
Brazilian born Hector Villa-Lobos.
The Villa-Lobos piece. Concerto for
Guitar, will feature guitar soloist Mr.
Philip Hii of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Mr. Hii will appear through the sup-
port of the South Texas Classic Guitar
Society and the Texas Commission on
the Arts.
Mr. Hii has international perform-
ing experience and will offer a “won-
derful” end to the fun-filled evening,
spokesmen say.
Dinners will cost $5.50 and con-
cert tickets will be $10, $15 and $20
depending on the seat. Concert tickets
can be bought in advance in McAllen
at Melhart’s Music Center, Valley
Keyboards and Jones & Jones, in
Edinburg at the Edinburg Chamber of
Commerce and at the UTPA Theater
Box Office, at the Harlingen Chamber
of commerce and at the Valley Cham-
ber of Commerce in Weslaco. Addi-

say the area is entering the first stages
of a measles epidemic. All children six
months of age and older should be
vaccinated against measles either by
their private physician or one of the
County Health Department Clinics,
