The rulers over the senior court of the 1959 Bren-
ham Maifest are Miss Patricia Ann Maddox, 17, and
Gene LaFleur, 18. Queen Patricia is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Owen Maddox and King Gene the

A resolution in favor of estab-
lishing a National Seashore on
Texas' Padre Island has just been
passed by the Advisory Board on
National Parks. The resolution
endorses my bill which would do
that
1 reported to you sometime ago
that 1 had introduced this bill.
And State an Federal legislators
have been working together to
have it passed We have been en-
couraged by the many letters from
individuals and resolutions from
groups which haw poured in sup-
porting the measure, and I have
had a great many of these printed
in The Congressional Record.
The letters have not all been
from Texas as this is not just |
A Lone Star State project. If Pa-
dre Island is made into a national |
park. it will become a recrea- 1
tion center for people from all
over the country. But our oppor-
tunity to turn it into a national
seashore will not last much lon-
ger. We must move this session
or this fine section of rapidly va-
nishing public seashore may be
taken over for private develop-
ment.
The action by the Advisory
Board on National Parks was
based on a study which field wor-
kers of the U. S. Department of
Interior National Park Service
conducted.
