Alwin Mertink Passes
Our community was shocked on
Tuesday afternoon when news of
the sudden passing of Mr. Mer-
tink came. He died at the dinner
table at noon. Interement was on
Friday morning from St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church, Serbin with the
Rev. Max Studtmann officiating
in the absence of Rev. Arndt, due
to illness.

4-H‘ers To Receive
$6,700 S & H
Educational Grant
Outstanding college prospects in
the state this year will share in
educational grants offered to pre-
sent or former 4-H Club mem-
bers.
The awards, totaling $6,700, are
being provided by The S&H Foun-
dation for the fifth consecutive
year, reports the National 4-H Ser-
vice Committee.
Each of 17 selected states will
receive $300 to be awarded by the
Extension Service.
Selection preference will be giv-
en girls planning to major in home
econimes, but depending upon
state regulations, girls or boys in
other fields may be eligible.
In addition, S&H provides two
scholarships awards available on
a national basis. The grants of
$800 each will be given to two
present or former 4-H girls who
will be juniors in college this year.
They must plan to major in home
economics in their junior and sen-
ior years.
Additiional information and sch-
olarship applications are available
from county extension agents or
the state 4-H Club office.

Paul’s Lutheran Church, Serbin,
Sunday morning was well attend-
ed The lecture by missionary
James Dretke of Ghana and Nig-
: eria was most enlightening and
i interesting It gave all in attend-
ance a gimpse of what these mis-
sionaries go through in these for-
eign countries.
Canada, visited with her sister,
Mr and Mrs. Martin Weiser and
daughters at Lincoln and also vis-
ited her father, Mr. Ed A. Schulz
here. Aunt Emma Heune at War-
da and enjoyed dinner and the
day Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Mertink and dinner and
i the afternoon Thursday with Mrs.
Annie Tschatschula. In the even-
ing Mrs. Tschatschula enjoyed the
company of Mitchel and Carol
Jean Hirsch and Miss Maurine
Wagner.

Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Schulze,
Jr. (nee Ruby Lehmann) are the
happy parents of their first born,
a son Congratulations, Mr. and
Mrs Lehmann are the proud
grandparents here and Mr. and
Mrs Daniel Schulze, Sr. of Fedor
are the paternal grandparents.
The Schulze’s became grandpar-
ents twice during the past week,
since another grandson was born
to their other son, Gilbert and
wife) nee Elline Kalmback) on
Monday.
Mr and Mrs Lawrence Rich-
ter (nee Bernice Lorenz) and fam-
ily of Houston and Mrs. Theresa
Lorenz visited with brothers, Ru-
dolf and Erwin Lorenz and sis-
ter, Alona, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred
Menzel, Doloris and Winfred over
the weekend.
Mr and Mrs. Leroy Schuster
and Brenda of Houston visited
with the Alfred Prellop’s, Sr. and
Delbert Sunday. Also Roy Weise
