Mobilization ‘87, will feature door prizes, a spirit of fun and
the special guest appearance of Israel's minister of justice,
Abraham Sharir.
Sharir will visit on the opening night of Mobilization '87,
Wednesday, Mar. 18. The phone-a-thon will continue all day
and evening on Thursday, Mar. 19, daytime only on Friday,
Mar. 20, and the morning of Sunday, Mar. 22.

Emanu El tradition to continue
with Purim carnival on Mar. 15
An Emanu Eltradition of over 20 years-the celebration of Purim
with a carnival-continues at Temple Emanu El, 1500 Sunset Blvd.,
Sunday, Mar. 15. The carnival, sponsored by the Emanu El Parent-
Teacher Association, will be held from noon till 3 p.m. in the con-
gregation's Feld Hall. /
The carnival will be preceded by the traditional reading of the
Megillah and an original play, Peter Pan Visits the Never Never
Land of Shushan.
There will be over 25 booths for children and adults alike, featur-
ing the Shushan |ail, Esther's Wheel of Fortune, Walk for the Ani-
mals, Cakewalk, the Country Store and Cradle Roll, a special area
of games designed for children 4 and under.
Susan Speer, Judy Loebl and Cathy Irby have worked hard to
make sure the prizes and drawing gifts are exciting. Tickets for the
drawing will be available at the carnivaL Drawing gifts include gift
certificates, a weekend get-away. Rocket tickets, plus dinner for 4
and a compact disc player.
To volunteer to work at the carnival, call Maddie Lobel, 932-
1492, or Nancy Darsky, 777-1710.
"Everyone is invited to come to the carnival, which is the PTA's
major fundraiser, and have a fabulous time," said Judy Turpie, PTA
president. •

Sharir, recently appointed I srael's minister of justice, pre-
: viously served as minister of tourism for five years. An attor-
* ney in Israel since 1960, Sharir received his law degree from
* Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He has served as a member
: of Knesset (Israeli Parliament), secretary general of the Lib-
* eral Party, a consul for economic affairs in both Los Angeles
* and Atlanta, and director of the General Employees Orga-
* nization of Israel.
All those who volunteer to work on the phone-a-thon are
eligible to receive door prizes. The grand prize, in keeping . aesmanesianie
with the “Mop-up” theme of Mobilization ‘87, is a vacuum
cleaner donated by Tom Oreck of Greek Vacuum in Highland Village. Volunteers may submit
their names for the Sunday afternoon, Mar. 22, drawing each time they volunteer for a two-

The National Council of Jewish
Bessie Rothstein will be honored
with the Babe Green B'nai B’rith
Women Leadership Award to be
presented at the 1987-88 installa-
tion of officers Apr. 9.
A member of BBW since 1954,
she was a founder and past pres-
ident of the Rose Caplovitz Chap-
ter.
When asked about her philoso-
phy, Bessie's answer revealed her
warm and caring nature that has
endeared her to the members of
BBW and everyone she meets: "I
try to keep active and help others,
but especially I enjoy the friend-
ship of the many women I have
worked with over the years in B'nai

Bessie Maas Rothstein, born in Houston, spent the early years of her
life at the Jewish Children's Home in New Orleans, La., with her sisters
and brothers. She proudly remembers her childhood there.
During World War II, Bessie and her twin, Pearl Maas, volunteered
for duty and spent three years in the Women's Army Corps, eight months
of which were in Germany. She was married to the late Ben Rothstein
