Dear Editor:
Excitement in a small

happening these days.
Anyhow, it made for an
interesting week.
I would suggest that if
the gator leaves and we
catch the robbers, that we
have a town festival.

years ago, I never knew
what he had lived through.
I know that he likes to
read stories by Ernest
Hemingway, but until I
asked him, I never knew it
was because he found his
own sense of adventure in
those tales.
Not to sound cheesy, but
our dads do a lot for us by
being there throughout our
lives and supporting our
decisions. Along with these
actions which add self-con-
fidence to a child’s life, it’s
also nice to be well-connect-
ed with someone you’re
related to; to know not only
where you came from, but
from who you came from.
For me, the best present I
can give my dad this
father’s day is not in the
form of a bar of soap-on-a-
rope, but is in listening to
him, hearing about his life
and trying to understand
someone who is very much
like me but who has been
shaped by different circum-
stances and life experi-
ences.
This much is owed to all
the dads out there who took
the time to listen to and
understand their children.
The Sealy News is posting the
following question to "
our readers this week:
Do you think the city should work with the
proposed subdivision by allowing water and
wastewater services to be regulated by a
municipal utility district?
•Yes
•No
As we drive around Sealy
all we see is new construc-
tion. We are growing in
every direction, but one
thing that must accompany
the business growth in
town is new housing.
Sealy needs additional
housing. That’s the bottom
line. We have fine local
builders and fine realtors
who are selling homes and
property left and right, but
our need is outpacing our
progress today. We need
more.
The prospect of 88 new
homes in Sealy is wonder-
ful news, and the thought
that such a development
may reach 1,000 or more
homes is impressive, but it
is something to celebrate
as much as something that
is going to take us all
rolling up our sleeves and
making sure everything
goes well.
Much of the burden falls
on the city council and even
more on our city staff as
they iron out the particu-
lars of how to make this
work.
When I had to choose
between my love of track or
continuing on with dance
lessons, which I had been
taking for 8 years and he
had sunk a lot of money
into, he suggested I not
think about anything

We must do what we can
to help with infrastructure
and improvements, but the
council and staff - through
their discussions
Wednesday evening -
appear to understand we
cannot take on an over-
whelming burden without
planning and assurances.
Growth at any cost usual-
ly ends up being a cost no
one is willing to bear after
it is too late. Everyone can
benefit in the long run, the
city, residents and develop-
er, but only careful plan-
ning and study will help us
all reap such rewards.
Future developers will
take their cue from those
we deal with today and a
pleasant, thorough and fair
experience today, will
encourage others to follow
suit. A difficult experience
will cause future suitors to
think carefully before con-
sidering Sealy.
We must continue to find
solutions to the shortage of
housing in Sealy and help
those who work here, live,
shop and play here.
