Years,” his memoir on the pres-
idency published in 1963, Eisen-
hower said he let it be known to
the enemy in Korea “through

prepared to use atomic weap-
ons, and that the knowledge
shortened the war.
Said Eisenhower: “I let it be
known and I’m sure it had _
great effect because the answer
came back that they’re ready to
resume conversations about the
armistice.”
Lanham, 54, died Saturday of
an apparent heart attack.

since 1936, Lanham began his
