Fisherman Christopher Peckne founds secluded spot on the Cibolo Creek
dam to try his luck at catching some of the trout stocked in the creek Thursday.
Along with Peckne many other fishermen were seen up and down the creek
during the Christmas holidays.
The first event of the 1996 Kendall
County Livestock Show and Sale begins
Wednesday afternoon, January 10 when
more than 120 local youngsters bring their
turkeys or broilers to be judged in the annu-
al poultry show.
It all begins at 3:30 when the checking in
of entries begins. Judging is expected to
begin at 6 p.m.
According to David Rech, chairman of the
poultry show, about 110 pens of boilers and
20 pens of turkeys are expected to be
entered.
Rech said he considered the poultry divi-
sion the most even competition because all
the FFA and 4-H members start with identi-
cal birds.
Poultry raising is also the least expensive
project for youngsters, especially novices, to
enter because of the low initial cost.
The remain show events begin the follow-
ing Thursday when swine are checked in
between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sift will begin at
6 p.m. and all swine participants must be
present at the sift.
Sheep, goats and cattle are checked in
Thursday beginning at 4 p.m. through 7 p.m.
Judging begins Friday with swine, sheep and
goats starting at 7:30 a.m. Cattle are judged
beginning at 12 noon.
About 420 units are expected for the auc-
tion which starts at 12 p.m. Saturday, up an

estimated 30 units from 1995. Presentation
of awards will begin at 12 noon Saturday
with the auction immediately following.
Sunday, each youngster that sold an ani-
mal is required to be at the show barn at 1
p.m. to assist in cleanup efforts. Everyone is
asked to bring a rake, shovel or broom and to
aid in the cleanup.
After the facilities have been cleaned, the
youngsters will receive their checks only
after the KCJLA director receives their
thank you letter to the buyer.
The directors are hoping for a large
turnout to watch the youngsters show and
sell. Thirty more buyers are needed this year
above last year.
Registered buyers are treated to a barbe-
cue lunch from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon
Saturday as directors hope to get them in the
mood to bid high and often for the young-
sters’ stock.
