Reflections ‘95 - January 3, 1996
for young Fishathon contestants who caught
the most fish and the largest fish at the April
fund-raiser for the Kendall County Unit of
the Cancer Society. However, a special pre-
sentation was made Saturday, June 24.
Ryan Horan of Boerne came in with 40
sponsors and raised $847 in donations for the
second annual Fishathon in April. Local
board members awarded Horan a special tro-
phy and Board Members Anita and Darren
Kruse made the presentation Saturday, June
24.
A one car roll over in the 700 block of
River Road claimed the life of the driver and
lone vehicle occupant, Guillermo Gonzales
III, 18, of Bandera.
The Cibolo Wilderness Trail and Boerne
Independent School District have been
named grant winners from The Meadows
Foundation of Dallas.
“Food stamps will go out of business in
Boerne August 1,” State Comptroller said
this week. “Kendall County is included in the
largest expansion of the Lone Star card in
Texas, and with this roll-out, the Texas attack
on bureaucratic bloat and welfare fraud
moves into high gear." Kendall County has
1,012 food stamp recipients that receive a
total of $760,082 annually or an average of
$69.29 per person per month.

Recipients of the Chamber’s six annual
awards took center stage at ceremonies last
Friday evening at the Po-Po Family
Restaurant. Named Volunteer of the Year was
Bille Busby. The Rainbow Senior Center was
voted the Civic Organization of the Year.
Winning the Business of the Year Award was
Alamo Fiesta RV Park, and recipient of the
New Business of the Year Award was TJ’s
Burgers & More. Ambassador of the Year
went to the Boerne Village Band. The
President’s Award, honoring the year’s top
citizen, was presented to Sam Champion,
Principal of Boerne High School.
(7-5) Approximately 250 athletes are
expected to be on Boerne’s Main Plaza
Saturday, July 15, for the first Boerne Lake
Triathlon. The race will include swimming,
running and cycling.
This year this Sisterdale Volunteer Fire
Department will celebrate 20 years of ser-
vice. The annual fund raiser will take place
August 12, 1995.
Kcndalia News: The Kendalia Home
Coming Sunday was enjoyed by a large
crowd and much fellowship and good food
was enjoyed. There was a couple there from
Australia who attended who arc touring the
country. The hand made quilt was won by
some one from Alvin.
(7-12) The July 4 Boerne Village Band
"Abendkonzert" packed Boerne’s Main Plaza
with the largest crowd ever — more than
2,000 folks.
Commissioners gave the green light to the
new Kendall County courthouse Monday
when they authorized Kendall County Judge
James W. “Bill” Gooden to sign a contract
with the architectural firm of Rebler, Vaughn
and Koon. The action was taken during the
regular session of Commissioners’ Court.
The weather wasn’t the only thing heating
up the last couple of weeks after county
home and business owners received new
property tax appraisals. Appraisals conducted
by the Kendall County Appraisal District
increased approximately 25 percent across
the county.
(7-19) Norwest Corporation has completed
its acquisition of Comfort Bancshares, Inc.,
holding company of Comfort State Bank
with $42 million in assets and one location in
Comfort, Eugene C. Burow, president of the
bank said last week.
Kendall County Commissioners voted
Friday to support the construction of a new
building for the Rainbow Senior Center.
The seventh confirmed case of rabies in
Kendall County was announced late Tuesday
by the Texas Department of Health.
(7-26) Fabra Elementary second grader
Kayla Brockwell, daughter of Shannon and
Stacy Brockwell of Boerne, met Governor
George W. Bush while visiting relatives in
Austin last month. She visited the Capitol to
see her grandmother, Cindy Brockwell, also
