There is more to safe sailing than remembering to wear
your life jacket. Before you set sail, also make sure your
mast will clear power lines, especially near marinas and
launching ramps. An aluminum mast in contact with a
power line could result in a deadly accident. Once on
open water, keep a sharp eye out for overhead power
lines. Remember: clear sailing is safe sailing.

Leisure Time: I like to play golf with friends,
go hunting with my dad and spend time with my
family.
Like / Dislike: “What I like the most is dealing
with the public and being able to make a differ-
ence in someone’s life. What I like the least is
the tragedy we see day to day that could have
been prevented if people would just think about
what they are doing.
Why did you become a firefighter?: “I had a
friend in high school who joined the Boerne Fire
Dept, and talked me into joining. My father was
also a firefighter. After I made three of four fires,
I knew what profession I wanted to spend my
life doing.”
Why did choose EMS : “When the county
was forced to take over the EMS due to
changes in the law, it made it too hard for the
funeral home to continue to provide EMS ser-
vice. The county asked for volunteers. The San
Antonio Fire Dept, had been doing EMS for
about one year and I had some friends that
were members that liked it. I tried it and I liked it
as well.”
