DISCRIMINATION
This letter is written, not in
anger, but in hopes that future
incidents do not evolve. Tuesday
April 5, 1 was rushing to the
Registrar’s office. On the way I
happened to bump into a person’s
cup of water. Now I admit that
this act occurred because I was in
a hurry. But it was an accident!

shooting last April 1 in front of
the Armijo Center was made
before any investigation.
Here is another version, believed
by this writer to be correct.
THE STORY begins over a
month-and-a-half ago. The T-Birds
is a sports organization in South El
Paso and has been active for the
past two years. They are also a
service club, sponsoring picnics for
fatherless children and helping
needy families find housing. Their
sponsor is Mr. Ray McNutt.
Tony Corrales, a member and
past president of the T-Birds, was
well known and loved by the
South El Paso community. He
attended Bowie High School and
was a Vietnam veteran. Corrales
died in the April I incident.
The T-Birds, and Tony Corrales
especially, disliked the addicts

After having been gratuitously

own experiences with the health
service, you would probably do
better with Oral Roberts, at least
he couldn’t do you any harm. As
for Brooks’ bewilderment about
the source of funds for
improvements; any wailing about
a lack of funds for any student
services by an administrator here,
is the most blatant hypocricy
unless he is actively engaged in
fighting the people and policies
that continue to channel
hundreds of thousands of dollars
down the rat hole of athletics.

also questions concerning the use
of the Liberal Arts annex.
Students are wondering why their
rooms are being taken from them
to be used as offices when the
present space is not being fully
utilized.
Anyway — where arc the people
coming from to fill up this office
space? Is this a scheme being used
by the university to pay off the
new dorms? Are they trying to
soak the student for as much
money as they can?
Then, speaking of money,
students arc having a hard enough
time paying for the dorm fees
(which have been accelerating
annually) as they stand. Some of
the foreign students have dropped
from school because of the
increase in tuition. How many
more are going to leave because of
the higher dorm payments?
There are many El Paso
students who live in the dorms Bell
and Hudspeth who would rather
go home than to move into Kelly
or Barry Halls. Not to mention the
fact that the newer halls are not
constructed as well as Hudspeth
and Bell Halls.
The parietal rule forces the
students to live in the dorms so
why can’t we choose which dorm
to live in?
Why doesn’t the

“shooting gallery.” The T-Birds
had been asking the addicts to
“shoot” somewhere else, fearing
that this open practice would
influence younger children. The
addicts were also believed to be
responsible for the many robberies
in South El Paso.
A scuffle finally resulted
between the addicts and the
T-Birds over the addicts’
“shooting.” The addicts became
very angry and left, later returning
in greater numbers to South El
Paso and attacking the T-Birds on
Saturday, April 1, while the
T-Birds were planning a picnic for
die Boys’ Club.
CONTRARY to media reports,
persons are willing to testify
concerning the incident. The real
story here would appear to be,
however, that the police have been
quite reluctant to investigate the
incident and have resorted,
instead, to slanderous remarks,

unwitting jest merits its
publication in what used to be the
campus humor margazine. It was
hilarious. That Brooks actually

with students to justify their
seeking action through his office
is simply one evidence of the
larger problem; his lack of
